About this listen

For decades, Sandra Brown’s life has been intertwined with someone she has never met: an eleven year-old girl named Moira Anderson – who disappeared from their hometown of Coatbridge, Scotland, in 1957. It became one of the oldest cold cases in Scottish history.

Sandra lived just around the corner from Moira. She grew up hearing about the missing girl, whose memory haunted the town. But she never imagined that, one day, she would be the one trying to uncover what happened. Or that her search for answers would reveal secrets and lies so close to home.

In her own words, Sandra tells the full story, of a lifetime spent confronting doubt and resistance. Can she break the silence and find the truth? And how much pain will it cause?

Content Warning: There are references to child sexual abuse and to violence in this series. Listener discretion is advised.

Certainly dedicated to finding the perp and the body

Interesting account of a factual case … well presented … shame the body has not been found to date

Close to home

I enjoyed the narration, the chapters were well bookended easy to follow along and comfortable to listen to. dislikes the end is not as conclusive as I would like but that is not a dig against the story or the real events I just wish they found the body.

So moving

I have read alot of thrillers and mystery books and its also unbelievable that this is a true story. Sandra’s dedication to uncovering the truth is remarkable. We need more people to stand for the vulnerable and not let uncomfortable topics be ignored. A very insightful story delivered with true feeling and determination

5 star

Very interesting to hear this also very sad that this is real life and it happened to a child and so little was done at the time - excellent narrative given the harrowing subject. Here’s hoping that one day Moira Anderson can be laid to rest.

Moving and brave

This is such a sad and disturbing story, beautifully told here by Sandra Brown. The production and sound design is beautiful, and the twists and turns of this tragic story create a fantastic listening experience. To know that, out of this tragedy, has grown the Moira Anderson Foundation - an organisation that has helped me personally and many thousands of others - is ultimately a positive and hopeful message.

Excellent, Honest and Compassionate

This true account about the abduction and death of a little girl, is an excellent insight into historic cultural attitudes towards sex crimes against children. Significantly, those attitudes contributed to a murderer evading justice.

gripping and couldn't stop listening

wow, what a story and brilliantly delivered. I went through an emotional roller coaster. I have such admiration for Sandra and all the people involved who have stuck with this tragic story. You are brave and courageous and while it shouldn't have happened in the first place, and the ineptitude of the authorities involved, your dogged determination has filled me with admiration as I can only imagine what youve all been through. We can't change the past but we better learn from it. If you're reading this, download and listen now, one of my favourite podcasts this year.
