Summary

New supernatural mystery for fans of Slayers: A Buffyverse Story!

From brilliant debut writer L J Weller, and narrated by Sex Education's Tanya Reynolds, meet Tansy Bloom, Monster Hunter. Buckle up: there's a new slayer in town.

Three months ago, twenty-eight-year-old Tansy Bloom quit monster hunting. Since then, she’s been trying to live a normal life (whatever that means), but ending up single, unemployed, and living on a boat outside her godfather’s pub definitely wasn’t part of the plan. So, when Tansy’s ex-husband – fellow monster hunter Rex Barclay – turns up like a bad penny and asks for her help with his latest investigation, Tansy reluctantly agrees.

At first, the job appears to be a straightforward monster hunt – following a spate of large creature sightings, Rex believes a werewolf is on the loose in Norfolk, and he intends to capture it. But Tansy’s not convinced. For one thing, the mysterious black dog Rex is hunting is able to vanish into thin air. For another, everyone who’s encountered the black dog is dying in a series of freak accidents. Bad news for Tansy, who’s just come face-to-face with the creature herself.

Star Crossed Genres

Not a bad book but an unusual mix of genres. it reads like a combination of fantasy and trashy romance novel. Think twighlight without the Emo and your pretty close. I would recommend this and if you haven't found 'The stranger times' which is similar but has more humour, would recommend that too.

Interesting idea

Story was ok but not a lot really happens and to say she’s a Monster Hunter there’s no talk of any special abilities. Just didn’t strike me as plausible. It was very well read however.

Could be a new supernatural series?

This supernatural story is set in Norfolk in locations that will be familiar to those who know the area, however Tansy's adventures as a monster hunter will appeal to anyone who enjoys a good story. A cast of interesting characters are involved in saving lives that are endangered by a mythical creature whose legends have been researched by the author. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of normality and the supernatural, plus a touch of romance thrown in!
Tanya Reynolds reads perfectly with expression and characterisation that draws the reader in. Although the ending is neat, without annoying loose ends, there remains scope to develop this into a series. In print, it would be available to a wider audience.

Fast moving story

Loved the story, it moved fast and was exciting !

Only complaint I had was the love life of the heroine- it made me want to vomit.

But a great urban fantasy based in England for once

Enjoyable enough, but nothing substantial

This was an enjoyable enough way to pass a few hours, and the narration by Tanya Reynolds was great. But at the end of the day it's not much more than Buffy/Lost Girl fanfic.
But give it a listen. If you like those two series, you'll probably enjoy this tale.

Something to sink your teeth into...

It's one of the rare instances when a perfect story marries up with the perfect narrator. I was thoroughly engrossed in this witty and thrilling, Buffyesque on-the-edge-of-your-seat ride through Norfolk's supernatural underworld. Expertly written with characters you love instantly (Herons included) and a story and atmosphere that grips you from the second you start listening.

If you like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural, this is something you can really sink your teeth into...
