Summary
A witty and warm debut novel from a young Irish writer. A story of family, grief, and the ways we come together when all seems lost.
'There's been a little incident...'
Molly Black has disappeared. She's been a bit flighty since her parents died (sure, hadn't she run off with a tree surgeon that time?) but this time, or so says her hastily written leaving note, she's gone for good.
That's why the whole Black clan—from Granny perched on the printer all the way through to Killian on Zoom from Sydney—is huddled together in the back room of Uncle John's semi-D in the Dublin suburbs, arguing over what to do.
Cousin Bobby's having a hard enough time of it as it is, convincing his family he's happy single and childless. Lady V reckons this is all much too much fuss over a thirty-year-old. And Uncle Danny knows all too well how it feels to be lost with no one trying to find you.
But Uncle John is determined never to lose anyone again. Especially not his niece, who is more like her mum than she realises.

Loved this book!
"There's Been a Little Incident" by Alice Ryan is an absolute gem of a book. Its gripping plot, well-developed characters, and beautifully descriptive writing kept me hooked from beginning to end. Ryan's ability to blend humor and heartache is truly remarkable. A must-read masterpiece!

Fell flat
The beginning of this book started off so full of suspense and had the makings of being a gripping read. I love Irish fiction and I loved how the author set up these characters from the onset. However half way through, the plot started to fall flat, the story line in parts was eye rolling and characters became annoying and unrelatable. As I nearing the conclusion of the book , I was willing for it to the end as it continued to drag on and on with no real meaning.

Missing something …
I am a big fan of Irish fiction/writers and selected this book after searching for recently published books. I did manage to finish the book but it was not for me. The narration didn’t flow in many points and I lost interest in the story line throughout. I did persevere hoping the story would suddenly grip me but it failed . It is not a book I will recommend.

A touching and wonderful read
A heart warming tale with charming characters with the theme of grief running through each of their lives. I both laughed out loud, and cried so many times listening to this book. It is a really touching story, and I want a sequel please
