About this listen
At 29, Claire is full of the joys of life - that is, until her husband leaves her on the day she gives birth to her baby. With a broken heart, a beautiful newly born and an expanding mirror image, she decides to visit her eccentric family in Dublin. There she starts to feel better. So much better, in fact, that James is in for a surprise when he decides to slither back into her life.

Not the greatest...
I think this is one of the earliest by the author and I had worked the end out with about 6 chapters to go. Performance was great and there were some laugh out loud moments but the author gets better with her more recent work so try those 👍🏻

Nothing happens
I really like Marian Keyes' writing style and the narration was great. The problem was that the story was painfully slow and actually nothing really happened.

loved this so much x
Great characters and story. Sad it has ended. The narrator is great and love the way she voices the different characters.

Predictable
I felt the story was predictable, the writing repetitive and the characters stereo-types of their genders/careers/role in book.
I feel terrible saying this as Marián is so lovely but I couldn’t love the book.

Hard Going
I listened to Rachel's Holiday and enjoyed it so I thought I'd go back to the start but gosh, they don't really compare. the characters were so insipid, I didn't feel like I really knew or liked a single one. They said, did and reacted to things in ridiculous ways.
Unfortunately I'm cursed with never being able to just abandon a book once I'm started so I did listen the whole way through but gosh, it was a struggle. the Americanisms didn't bother me but the writing did, it was like it was trying too hard to be funny, interesting etc and just came across as amateurish.
This was her first novel so let's not judge her too harshly, I just wouldn't bother with this one!
I did like Rachel's Holiday, it was predictable chick-lit but is a good bit of feel-good easy listening.
