Summary

Twenty years ago seven students became friends at their exclusive private school, Potter's Field. Now they have started dying in the most violent way imaginable. Detective Max Wolfe follows the bloody trail from the backstreets and bright lights of the city, to the darkest corners of the corridors of power. As the bodies pile up, Max finds he is fighting not only for justice, but for his own life....

The gripping first novel in an explosive new crime series by Tony Parsons, bestselling author of Man and Boy. If you like crime-novels by Ian Rankin and Peter James, you will love this.

Excellent

What did you like most about The Murder Bag?

Hope this is just the first of Woolf books. Likeable characters, gripping, interesting plot, maintains suspense to the end.

What does Colin Mace bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Excellent, intelligent reader - respects the words and doesn't feel that he has to be Olivier, (One of them was more than enough.)Brings the character to life. Perfect voice for main character. Please use him more often

A brilliant find

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's very well written and equally well narrated.
The writing style, which is educated and swift reminded me of Robert Galbraight's
Cormoran Strike series which I am a big fan of.
The main character is very likable, the story believable and yet intriguing.
A great find for sure and I can't wait to hear the next one

Mediocre story and narration

I like Tony Parsons, so was really looking forward to this! A bit of a let down overall: maybe the performer would play the role of the detective well, but his actual narration of the novel was annoyingly badly read - jarring in places, as though he hadn't read through it before he started.
The story is definitely not a ground-breaker as detective fiction goes - the detective is your typical "damaged by failed relationships because of devotion to police work blah blah".
Some exciting action scenes, and a bit of suspense...but the story is slow and I ended up not really caring who or why in the end.

Really enjoyed this!

What did you like most about The Murder Bag?

I was going to say this was a real page turner but obviously the wrong expression for an audiobook!!!! It did however keep me listening and I enjoyed the narration and also the characters. I downloaded The Slaughter man as soon as i finished and am thoroughly enjoying that too!

"It's nothing to do with how hard you can hit"

An intriguing story, as much about misplaced justice as the solving of the murders which start a police investigation. Nicely sketched characters which are greatly enhanced by the narration by Colin Mace, whose rendering as the voice of the main protagonist fit the persona perfectly. Sensitive and very human. However, Mr. Mace does have an oddity in his presentation - inappropriate phrasing pauses, for example "... ears flapping (pause) wildly (pause) ..." - which could be a little disconcerting, although not enough to spoil the flow of the narrative.
A pleasant, not too taxing, listen for fans of the detective mystery genre.

Surprisingly enjoyable!

This book was a surprise. It was much more darker than I expected. I enjoyed the story and the characters. It has started me looking for other mystery stories with a gritty edge.
