About this listen
They stole his crown. So, he stole their daughter…
For years, Erik, the scarred king of the Ever Kingdom, has thought of nothing but vengeance against the man who killed his father and trapped him beneath the waves, making him a prisoner in his own realm.
Until his enemy's daughter unintentionally breaks the chains on the Ever, and Erik makes her the unwitting pawn in his vicious game of revenge.
She's innocent. He's vicious. He will take back what he lost, no matter the price. Unless she steals his heart first.
Welcome to the passionate world of the Ever Kingdom, where pirates, sirens, and fae collide with Vikings in a dark fantasy romance between a villain and the innocent princess who holds his heart.
This book ends on a cliffhanger. This series is set in the same world as the bestselling Broken Kingdoms series but can be listened to independently.

Sooo good!
The narration, the story all of it was so good - wasn’t ready for it to finish! Have pre- ordered book 2. Can’t wait to continue this story!

Oh my gods
F-ing fantastic fantasy! It’s like if Pirates of the Caribbean and Vikings had a love child in LOTR! Wow! Enemies to lovers, grumpy vs sunshine, pirate king and viking princess. I loved this! It would’ve performed better as a duet but it still was amazing! The story, the plot, the world and the twist at the end! 🫣
I can’t wait for the next book! ❤️

I liked it but didn’t love it!
I think I was expecting maybe a bit more after all of the reviews… but I did enjoy it. I loved the under the sea element & the pirates & the magic. I liked the romance but didn’t love it & didn’t find myself completely rooting for them. Not sure what didn’t quite gel with me but I will still read the second book. I do have to agree with other reviews the narration was awful did put a spoiler on it for me maybe that’s why I didn’t overly gel with it. Some of the story just didn’t feel deep enough for me.

Better Read than Listened to
While Will Thorne is actually British, Lucy Rivers so obviously is not, that it was excruciating listening to her try to sound like an American’s idea of a Royal. The story was excellent and had all the fae torture and violence you would expect from this genre as well as all of the great steam and banter. The story got curiously convoluted right toward the end. The side characters were well written as were the main characters. The worlds were very interesting and described well. It’s just the cod accent and the curious chirpy inflection that made the female voice truly annoying. Unfortunately very few Americans can convince as Brits so why bother? Will Thorne sounded dark and deep and perfect (even though he does have an inflection he seems to like to use which you have to enjoy.) The various voices, including a weird Cockney, read by Lucy Rivers distracted from the content, so I read as much as I could as a palate cleanser.
I may read book two but I will not be listening to it.

Engaging story with terrible narration
I enjoyed the story but the narration made it difficult. The female narrator’s put-on British accent is laughable and her voice for the mmc was cringe-inducing. The male narrator was better but he made the character sound about 60 years old. There also wasn't any consistency in the characters voices, accents and inflections between the two narrators. It's like they were narrating two different books.
I would recommend the story for romantasy fans if you’re able to get past the narration.

Enjoyed the story, female narrator not good
Really not a fan of the female narrator and the accent put on. Annoyed me to the extent I couldn’t fully enjoy the story!

Dark Fantasy Romance with Pirates that meet Vikings!
Dual POV audiobooks are perfection! Loved both narrators so much!
What a journey! I loved it so much!
If you need a Dark Fantasy Romance with Pirates that meets Vikings, Sirens, Fae and Sea Witches And an ending that makes you want to read the next book immediately, this is your book!
The world-building is stunning and the slow burn just perfect!
The tension and spicy are well balanced with angst
Livia is strong, passionate and innocent: she’s a Songbird
Erik is the scarred king of the Ever Kingdom, vicious: he’s the Serpent.
But she will steal his heart!
That cliffhanger was brutal!
I cannot wait to for book two, this is going to be a fantastic series!

Narration
I really was interested in the story, but gave up listening in the end, as unlike other reviewers I really didn’t like the narrators. The girls voice was just too posh and the male made Eric sound like an old man, which just spoiled the whole thing for me.
