About this listen

From best-selling indie author and TikTok favorite Laura Thalassa comes a witch fantasy set in the world of the Bargainer series.

At age 20, Selene Bowers desperately hopes to be accepted into Henbane Coven, an academy for young witches. Since one of the requirements for entry is to connect with her powers via a quest through the wilderness, Selene books a trip to South America. When a nefarious supernatural force tries to drag her plane from the sky, Selene's magic awakens to save her life—at a cost. Using her powers devours her memories, one by one.

Worse, when Selene braves the jungle and discovers the source of the attack, she finds herself awakening an ancient evil, Memnon the Cursed, who mistakes Selene for his long-dead wife. The wife who betrayed him. Selene manages to escape and begin her studies at Henbane, but when Memnon turns up at the coven and witches are found dead across campus, Selene becomes entangled in a dangerous plot. Accused of the murders on the basis of her memory loss, Selene must rely on Memnon's help for answers and his plans for her will change everything.

Great narration

Selene has magic-induced amnesia. Memnon has a raging grudge. Unfortunately, he also has all the charm of someone who just won’t let an argument go. Their early interactions are like déjà vu in book form—slow, repetitive, and increasingly frustrating.

The plot somehow manages to be both packed and sluggish at the same time. Side characters? Barely memorable. But despite its flaws, the book was enjoyable, and the ending finally gave me something to chew on. Will I continue the series? Yes. Do I hope Memnon takes a chill pill in book two? Also yes.

Great narration, big fan of Stella Bloom, however the male voice she puts on was.., off putting.

Enjoyable though simple storyline

Nice but quite simple storyline. Not a very advanced world building, could have been more of that, might have helped increase the story twists, now they are not very wow.

I Was Charmed By Selene!✨️

Bewitched: Bewitched, Book 1
By: Laura Thalassa
🎧 Audiobook Narrated by: Stella Bloom
Length: 12 hrs and 40 mins

I enjoyed this audiobook. It's the first book I've listened to coming out of a rough illness. I had to stop and start it quite a lot, but that's because I'm still so poorly!
The narrator did a pretty good job of differentiating the characters with her voice. However, I do think it would've benefited greatly from a male narrator, too.

I was charmed by Selene and felt for her about the memory loss after using magic. As the plot unfolded, I was horrified for Memnon being locked away for two millenia. I liked her bestie Sybil, she's loyal but a tad flaky. Lol

I'm looking forward to listening to book 2.⭐️

Missing personalities

It felt like none of the characters had personalities. Not a lot of quirks, or anything. Very plot driven - felt kinda fast/superficial. The spice was good 🌶️ But I'm invested so I'll listen to the second book too.

A true morally gray character

I need the next book like... right now. I was hooked from the first chapters. Whatever you'll think will happen, it's not that. Such an amazing surprise this book. The narration might not be everyone's favorite, but I liked it. And yes, it would have been mind blowing as a duet narration. The only downside were the rhyming spells, silly but funny.
