About this listen

Everyone’s heard of Nostradamus. No one’s heard of Philibert Montmorency. One was a legend. The other, not so much....

A newly discovered Nostradamus prophecy has taken the internet by storm thanks to "The Oblivion Doctrine", a group of online conspiracy theorists. Apparently the end is nigh. And in case anyone’s interested, nigh is definitely a Tuesday.

Doctor Ally Oldfield, professor of Medieval Languages, is summoned to Lyon for a second opinion. She’s not happy about it. But then again she’s rarely happy about anything. She’s got a coffee deficiency, a low tolerance towards almost everybody, and nothing good to say about Nostradamus whatsoever. And in her expert opinion, although the prophecy is over 500 years old, it’s definitely not by Nostradamus. So if he didn't write it, who did?

Helped by Gabriel Janvier, the second-worst "prepper" of all time, and Mr. Palomer, a mysterious old philanthropist, Oldfield must scour history to discover the truth before the prophecy comes true or the Oblivion Doctrine’s fake news destroys civilization anyway.

In the search for truth, only history can save the future.

The End of the World Is Nigh is the first book in the Dr. Ally Oldfield series.

If you love books about con men, conspiracies, Renaissance history, massive agitated boar, exploding beds, marmalade, and historical satire then this is the book for you. Okay, you've never listened to a book like that before...here's your chance, get into the laughter today!

Exciting

This was such a fun story to listen to! It was intriguing, interesting and really easy to get into. If you like stories about long lost history, with a little bit of love & mystery thrown in, this is definitely a good book to get.

Smitten

This was an unexpected joy. A gem of a story with some gloriously high-camp characters, fantastically rendered. it's funny, but cleverly so. No blunt humour, but crafted, entertaining fun.
I may well revisit this.

Stunning Story Spin.

Brilliant Twist on the legend that is Nostradamus. Loved the switching from past to current timeline, it kept pace with both plots. Excellent Narration. Performed really well. Highly recommend.

Timely

Obviously rushed out to be relevant this feels like a book that was nearly finished then rushed. The editing of the audio leaves a bit to be desired but it’s an interesting idea.

Pure Entertainment

Such a great story, featuring larger than life characters and a very funny script. I am only 50% through but I am compelled to write this review. Also, the narrator is absolutely excellent with a rich voice and great accents.

Love it.

History Twistory

What an excellent romp through history and a savage yet heartfelt view into the lives of characters whose ‘real’ motivations come clean in amusing and often painful ways.

Excellent story but ...

The narrator was excellent. His voice work gave the characters more depth. The story was excellent too and I didn't see the twists at the end coming. However, it dragged rather in the middle. It was well worth persevering though.
