Summary

Hobbes: Unhuman Series, Books I-IV

I - Inspector Hobbes and the Blood Inspector Hobbes, a monstrous police detective, investigates grave, ghoulish goings-on. A mad pseudo vampire with the dagger of Vlad Tepes is behind robbery, and murder. It is a funny tale with a troll, human sacrifice, blood and great cooking. 'I ought to tell you, dear, he can get rather wild when he's hungry.'

II - Inspector Hobbes and the Curse Andy becomes infatuated with a dangerously beautiful woman during Hobbes's investigations into sheep deaths and the mysterious disappearance of pheasants, which are apparently connected to a rash of big cat sightings; and something horrible seems to be lurking in the woods. 'Love may be on the horizon but, beware; something wicked this way comes.'

III - Inspector Hobbes and the Gold Diggers Unwelcome attention after foiling an armed robbery forces the Inspector away on holiday to the dangerous Blacker Mountains, where his accident-prone friend, Andy, stumbles across something shocking, before falling for an attractive widow. ‘I always knew you’d get ahead one day.’

IV - Inspector Hobbes and the Bones Trouble lies ahead for Andy. Is the apparently charming young woman who attempts to seduce him merely setting him up for blackmail, or is something even more sinister afoot? Hobbes certainly believes so, and, though he's not the sort to worry, he is getting worried. ‘I was grateful for having been born human.’

Fantastic

I think of these books as an interesting twist on the Sherlock Holmes stories, although the stories themselves are highly original. The narration is excellent, the characters are intriguing, and the storyline is full of twists. They are amusing books for fans of detective stories and fantasy alike.

Wilkie Martin is my new favorite author!

I wasn’t sure what to expect I love buying these book bundles as you can binge the whole lot and get lost in a world of in this case murder, mayhem, and more whimsical laughs than you can throw a very frightened but half naked man at… that reference will become clear if you listen to the books.

The Hobbs Unhuman Series is in my opinion amazing! From the wonderful world created by Wilkie Martin and utterly fantastic narration performed by Tim Campbell.

This is a great set of books, I am currently halfway through book two, I binged book one in two days. I only just discovered there is a fifth book which I am about to purchase.

The characters are very well written, Hobbs is a Police Detective, a big burly no-nonsense bear of a man, creature, thing…? With the heart and temperament of an honourable, friendly and kind gent! Andy is, well Andy, he is an Ex-Journalist essentially the comic relief along with the hilarious and slightly mad House-keeper Mrs Goodfellow.

This book series is a mis mash of genres. It is a succession of whimsical, dark mysterious stories with a fun and bizarre backdrop of characters and events.

I would recommend this to anyone who loved The Rivers of London and Beaufort Scales Mystery series.

Quite funny

Nice to listen and quite entertaining. Good if you're in the mood for something easy to listen when doing chores or driving. You need to know English people a bit to catch all jokes, but if you're not familiar with them it's not a big problem.

An Absolute Hoot!!

This is about the 4th time I’ve gone through these stories again, but the first time as an audio book & Tim Campbell (narrator) does a spectacular job with all the characters!!
I love the stories, I love the characters & I especially loved hearing them all come to life.

Whimsical, easy entertainment

I thoroughly enjoyed this set of books from start to finish. The quaint, light-hearted feel, the narration and the characters were all excellent. I didn't feel taxed at any point, and the stories are just a nice, comfortable and amusing ride which I will happily listen to again many times.

Andy was sometimes frustrating, but it didn't detract from my overall impression as he serves as the bumbling foil to the generally unflappable Hobbes.

The occasional odd, slightly jarring pronunciations somehow served to add extra character to the production.

Funny, interesting and well narrated

I’ve loved listening to this book. It’s kept me going for days and I couldn’t switch it off. The characters are fascinating, the stories amusing and each little mystery keeps on building. I just hope the author hasn’t finished yet, as I want more...

Bonkers

I really enjoyed these books, the author seems obsessed with food and has an unusual sense of humour. The reading was fun, with a somewhat unique use / pronunciation of the English language. Highly recommend.
