Summary

Coming home and finding out my ex is my new roommate is a nightmare…especially when I’ve been pretending to hate her for years.

Harper Davidson has been ingrained on my heart since we were kids, and now she’s tattooed on my skin. But she’ll never know about either. Not when she’s better off thinking we’re enemies.

Having her in my space every day and sharing a wall with her every night is a challenge I never saw coming. A challenge I’m not sure I’m up to.

Especially when our daytime games turn into nighttime dares, pushing each other to the breaking point until our neighbors know exactly who’s making her scream.

As lines blur and feelings deepen, we begin teetering on the edge of something more. And it's becoming harder to pretend that this is nothing—that she is nothing.

Because this second chance is starting to feel like a last chance.

It’s always been her for me, but I’m broken beyond repair and don’t know how to be the man she needs. These demons in my closet are never silent, and I’ll do anything to keep them from dragging her down with me.

Even if that means letting her go again.

Intense, emotional and heartwarming

Wow! This book was intense in the best way. This is first Brighton Walsh book I’ve read and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read this series. This is book 6 of the Starlight Cove series and can be read as a standalone. While I didn’t feel lost at any point while listening, I did feel like I’d have appreciated certain things better if I’d read the series in order. This is a small town second chance, forced proximity romance.

This book has everything - comedy, banter, tension, tender moments, heartache and healing. I absolutely loved it. If you liked the dynamic between Sam and Casper in The Love You Fight for by Brit Benson, you’re going to love Levi and Harper - the rough, blue collar MMC who brings out the wild side of the prim and proper FMC from the other side of the tracks.

Levi has been carrying the burden of regret for something that happened over a decade ago. I love how she never pushed him to tell her what was weighing on him. She just let him know she was there for him if he needed her and that made him feel comfortable to eventually open up. Harper is a strong independent woman who’s trying to make her own way in the world and it’s lovely to see how Levi cares for and supports her (even when they’re lying to themselves about their feelings). Levi is so relatable and so loveable. He had my heart from the beginning of the book.

The side characters added a lot of humour to the story. I’m dying to read the rest of the series so I can see more of them. The Mckenzie siblings and their partners are a fun group of people that I would love to hang out with. They been through a lot as a family and it’s only made them closer. It was really heartwarming to see how they supported Levi when he finally revealed what he’s been going through and also how they welcomed Harper. This book has great mental health rep.

The narration was done in duet and both Zachary Johnson and Lucy Rivers were phenomenal. I loved the voices Lucy did for Mabel, the landlady, and Chase’s mum. Her portrayal of both characters had a warm, nurturing quality that perfectly captured their maternal presence in the story. Zachary Johnson is new to me and I loved his portrayal of Levi. He had me squirming in my seat during the spicy scenes and completely melting when he captured Levi’s gentle, caring side. They were both great in the emotional scenes. I’m not a big crier, but I cried a little bit in the last maybe 2 hours of the book.

Levi & Harper

4.25 Stars

Levi, Levi, Levi… the recluse and mysterious brother that refuses to do as his dictator sister says, ever! So broken, so broody, so swoony. Harper is his perfect match: knows her worth, deals with whatever is thrown her way and fights for what she wants. Just who Levi needs to fight his corner, and she does!!
Narrator wise, both Lucy Rivers and Zachary Johnson kind of grew on me after a few chapters and now I can’t not imagine them as Levi and Harper.
