About this listen

After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty.

Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust.

Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.

Even if it means keeping a secret so big, it could destroy everything.

They need an army. They need power. They need magic. And they need the one thing only Violet can find—the truth.

But a storm is coming...and not everyone can survive its wrath.

The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order.

Amazing storyline!

It was a slow start (please stick it out, I was skeptical too), however, gets really interesting middle-end! And ends on a cliffhanger…

Sadly a little disappointed

I hate being left on a cliffhanger and there are so many questions I have unanswered

Liked more than I expected

I’ve enjoyed this instalment of the Empyrean series more than I expected.
A combination of hype, expectations and external factors can ruin a book and I’m pleased to say I feel like Onyx Storm was well done. There wasn’t a great deal of progress in the grand scheme of things even though a was A LOT OF EVERYTHING going on. It was a never-ending rollercoaster but still so much to enjoy.
Onyx Storm picked up right where Iron Flame ended and it was a little touch and go for the first few chapters, it felt chaotic, but as soon as the focus shifted to the group dynamics and their friendships, it was evident that the vibe was different, in a good way.
I loved seeing more of the other characters and their world. The friendships element has been true from the start of this series but really seeing them in real time felt more intimate. Riddoc, especially, elevated to bff status. Also, seeing more of the other bonded dragons was refreshing. Andarna still holds my heart, as did the bond between Tairn and Vi.
It was a relief to see that Vi and Xaden didn’t regress to their default miscommunication; more maturity was evident. I’m in the minority that doesn’t need a great amount of spice in my fantasy so I’m glad this one wasn’t only focused on that, or rather Vi and X trying to avoid it (albeit miserably).
The added extra POVs near the end added more depth and dimension to the storytelling.
I will be rereading this in due time to let all the little details sink in but I’m glad that my instinct about a certain reveal wasn’t off target.
I’m patiently awaiting the penultimate book in this series and hopefully, the conclusion in the following will be epic.

Worth. The. Wait.

… that is all!

I would love to say more (and in heavy detail) but limiting the risk of spoilers, I will only chance to mention that it definitely feels like a middle book - new plot lines emerging, character development etc - but what a middle it was! Plenty to sink our teeth (and claws!) into. I had so much fun listening to this one - thankyou Rebecca!

Just as good as the first two don’t know how I’m going to wait a year for the next book.
