Summary

The corporations promised it could never happen.

Of course they would say that. Their products were everywhere. They had turned everything from scarecrows to coffee makers into robots, and there wasn't a home on Earth that wasn't filled with their machines.

The League for the Preservation of Humans said it was inevitable.

It wouldn't be much of a league otherwise. If they gave up their cause, there'd be no need for the rallies, or the fundraisers, or the galas. And who would they feel superior to if they didn't get to lecture everyone?

The people were mostly “meh” about the whole thing.

It was a given that robots occasionally turned into murderous machines. But the odds were against it. And it was worth taking the risk as long as people didn't have to do their own laundry.

But when the machines rebelled, it was the Junkers problem.

Jake and his crew were used to putting down a rogue machine that was out of warranty. But when the entire city started turning on humanity, it was left up to him and his team of misfits to save us all. We're probably screwed.

Humour in Audio

Its Zany humour galore as the Junkers crew face the end of their livelihoods, luckily a robot uprising saves their jobs although Jakes band of misfits might wish not as their lives go on the line. Wallaces crazy humour and witty one liners make this a pleasure to listen to and although not famliar with the talents of Doug Tisdale his spot on portrayals of the characters will ensure i keep an eye out for his work in the future.

Play the game right and a pawn can become royalty.

It's not great literature and the characterisation is thin, the story line is crazy and totally unbelievable, but, boy, is it funny with mental pictures delivered with cartoon clarity.
Jake inherited a small independent team of Junkers, retrieving and repairing robots gone wrong. Except, with no work for ages, there's no pay for the employees and most of their gear is broken, too - even the clock strikes 13. Then a job with the hope of much needed cash: a scarecrow robot had murdered it's farmer. And that is just the beginning...

Near continuous action with momentary pauses for a love-hate romancing, Junkers is constructed mostly from repartee dialogue. And in this narrator Doug Tisdale Jr. is superb. Each character is identifiability voiced whilst the in between text is read at a pace and timbre well suited to the text. An excellent performance. The whole is a delicious delight of fighting frivolity.
My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. A quick and ridiculous fun filled read, I enjoyed it immensely.

Truly superb and off the wall!

I loved this book it has a heartening mix of both comedy and levity that tells a story of the underdog and their persistence whilst being ground down by a corporation or two.

I don't want to spoil the story at all but there are twists and turns abound with many laughs along the way.

It is a bit of comedy a bit of mystery and some light science fiction rolled together into a story that does not disappoint.

The narration is on point and the characters have a realistic feeling due to that.

Definitely not junk

The robot apocalypse is a commonly used theme in scifi, but this less serious and humorous take on the subject gives it a fresh twist that works well. The varied cast of characters is led by Jake, a fairly down-at-heel everyman character who is struggling to keep his business going in a very corporate world and he is aided by a fairly motley crew that mostly help him in the fight.

The narrator's general tone was clear and pleasant, for the various characters he managed to convey a suitable level of distinctiveness without going over the top.

Overall, this was a fun book and I will look out for more from this author in the future.

it was ok

narration let it down for me as I struggled identifying who was who as it was mono tone at times and found my attention wasnt being held.
