About this listen

Viscount Rawleigh longs for a little diversion, and beautiful young widow Catherine Winters seems like easy prey. But Rex's target is a lady of virtue, and when she roundly rejects his proposal to become his mistress, Rex finds himself faced with a delectable challenge. Catherine knows she must fight the indecent feelings the Viscount arouses within her. But even though she knows one kiss could bring her to ruin, temptation proves an insurmountable foe, and Catherine cannot ignore the beating of her treacherous heart....

From the New York Times best-selling author Mary Balogh comes the first novel in the Horsemen trilogy - a scandalous romance of yearning passion and dangerous desires.

Lovely story.

Really enjoyed listening to this book. Of course the narrator always adds to a good listening experience.

A good story, with a hard done by heroine.

A good plot, typical Balogh, with an interesting heroine, and a mix of good, thoughtless men and twisting plot. One of her more enjoyable romances.

somewhat disappointing

Mary Balogh & Rosalyn Landor are a match made in heaven, however I found this book a bit disappointing.

Rosalyn Landor was fantastic as usual.

The book improved a lot from the middle onwards, but in the beginning I can't say that I liked either Rex nor Catherine.

I simply kept listening as I love Mary Balogh's books & I warmed up to the story halfway through.

Rex was extremely misogynistic, smarmy & brutish to start with & Catherine was extremely foolish.

Both make a really idiotic decision, but Catherine due to her past should've known better & stayed put until the end,

Also her solution to their problem is moronic & would only cause more problems not solve any of them...

but Mary Balogh is so good at what she does that I was rooting for their HEA by the end & that's why I adore her books!

A wonderful “listen”! Rosalyn Landor narrates Mary Balogh’s storied so well!

The performance is so important for audio books especially to entertain on a long drive. Looking forward to book two in the series!

Loved it

I really enjoyed this book, although you know what the ending will be, the wonderfully written stories of hope and love which are written by Mary Balogh are a joy to listen to. The narration is superb as usual.

Can’t decide if I like it

I feel that this story could have had so much more to it! Rakes ruin the reputations of women, but one ends up to be an ‘honourable’ man who does the right thing. They hate each other then suddenly love each other. Not one of her best books.

Predictable but highly enjoyable

While none of the twists/secrets in this were a surprise, I still thoroughly enjoyed the book, which was well written. Mary Balogh has a knack for describing things so you can perfectly picture them and she creates engaging, multi dimensional characters. The ending felt a little rushed but I enjoyed the book as a whole (Rosalyn Landor is a superb narrator) and will be continuing with the rest of the series.
