About this listen

This book is an experiment. We're experimenting together. You are part of the experiment, if you'll agree to it. Normally I don't let my subjects choose to be subjects. If you know you're being watched, you cease to be you. But I want you to read this. I wrote it for you. This magnetic book pulls you in its wake even as you resist its force. Sometimes you don't want to know what's next...©2018 Leo Benedictus (P)2018 Faber & Faber Fiction Literary Fiction

"A fascinating, disturbing and original thriller that erases the boundaries of the genre and draws challenging new ones." (Sophie Hannah)

Amazing book

This book is stunning. Beautifully and intelligently written. Dark and thought provoking. Creepy in the best way. Great read by the narrator too.

did i do it?

the way it was read made me feel like i was listening back to my own account of events and i was torn between outrage and being fully onboard with ‘my’’ actions

Had me transfixed!

Narrated by the lovely Matthew Baynton - who knew he could sound so creepy? Finished the book in a day as I couldn't turn it off.

Consent: Read Me

This isn't a novel for the faint hearted. An un-named male stalker interferes in management consultant Fran's professional and personal life with horrific consequences. Be warned - some sections are incredibly visceral to say the least. The author provides the listener/reader with believable characters, pace and understanding.

The narrator, Matthew Baynton, was sublime - his geeky tones really made the central character more sinister.

Ending was shit, but the book is still worth it.

Amazing use if language, just hypnotic. The ending was very disappointing, I need a second book.

Terrifying

To begin with, Mat Baynton’s narration seems oddly monotonous, but as you get to know the character it is perfectly suited.
I’ll admit to only having looked at this because of Mat but I’m so pleased that I did. It was not what I was expecting.
I really recommend this if you’ve found the blurb interesting, as it is that and so much more.

What a weird story

It ended really abruptly and left me feeling very uneasy.
I wouldn’t be able to describe it to someone else.

Well written but I had to stop listening

My fault I suppose but I was hoping for something a bit more subtle when I chose this. Leo Benedictus is clearly a gifted writer but with this one he strays too much into gore and sadism for my taste.
