Summary

From the mind of the million-copy best seller M.J. Arlidge comes the brand new serial killer thriller starring Detective Inspector Helen Grace.

'You have one hour to live.'

Those are the only words on the phone call. Then they hang up. Surely, a prank? A mistake? A wrong number? Anything but the chilling truth... That someone is watching, waiting, ready to take your life in one hour.

But why?

The job of finding out falls to DI Helen Grace: a woman with a track record in hunting killers. However, this is one case where the killer seems to always be one step ahead of the police and the victims.

With no motive, no leads, no clues - nothing but pure fear - an hour can last a lifetime....

Far to long winded

No need for over 100 chapters so long winded it just went on and on was so glad to get to the end, I don't think I will be listening to any more books by this author

Fantastic!

Couldn't wait to listen to this and wasn't disappointed. Helen Grace remains a fascinating character and the plot wound round and round. The way is finished left me hungry for. Loved it!

An okay story with some twists

It’s an ok story but it should have been so much better. I’m sure I’ve listened to other books by this author that have been much better. For me, the best bit about it was the ending. Right at the very end. Not because it was over but because somehow it made me want to listen to the next in the series.

Having persevered at the beginning, then been irritated that it wasn’t improving, I’d finally come to the conclusion that the only good thing about it, apart from interesting plot twists, was it made me want to start writing again, as I’m sure I could do better than this; I hung on till the end, my mind already working on what to listen to next, when the very last paragraph made me think “oh, there must be another one…” and now I’m contemplating looking up the next book in what was a rather uninspiring, frustrating listen. How annoying.

A bit predictable?

I thought the story a little weak in places, predictable dialogue and mini-outcomes throughout the story. However the whole came together at the end with a satisfactory twist. There was a rather unnecessary romp across the rooftops which gave the impression the story was auditioning to be the next James Bond movie that didn't really fit with the rest. Easy to read and to follow this is a book to relax with despite the storyline which was at times a little grim.

Gripping storyline

A really good book, one of the best so far and made even better by the way it was read.

Another magnificent listen

Have really been struggling the last 6 months or so to get engaged with a book, but this anticipated Grace one had me hooked right from the start :)

Love the books

I love this author and the Helen grace series- tried audio book for this one as read the previous - the reader is quite hard to follow in regards to tone of book but that’s just my personal opinion. Great story though and what a twist!

Disappointed

Love his books but lacked the ‘thrill’ of his previous titles. Just not as good.

So many chapters

I love this series, I think this is the first one I have listened to via audio book, so I don't know if it just didn't work or if the story was poor but it really did not grab me. Also, there is something absurd about someone reading out chapter numbers over 130, something I doubt I would have noticed in a book, silly but it began to about me. The accents didn't seem right, and at times I struggled to know which character was speaking, something I haven't experienced with the dozens of other audio books I have listen to. Some of the phrases and sentences just didn't ring true (i am British so it's not an American thing). And some of the words were pronounced oddly, and I know people from Southampton.
