Summary
In 2048, Sam Bixler is a brilliant scientist working for Telos, the world's most powerful corporation. Little does she know that a shocking secret about a deadly virus lurks within Telos, setting her on a thrilling and dangerous journey.
Telos’s famed Project Alethea initiative treated countless Cato virus patients, including Sam's mother, Joan. Sam must question everything after evidence emerges that Telos may have lied about her mother's death, leaving room for the possibility that Joan might still be alive. Determined to unravel the truth, Sam returns to her hometown in the Hudson Valley, only to discover that her father, Clint, is missing. In her quest for answers, she crosses paths with the Resistance movement, her father's allies in the fight against Telos, as they risk everything to expose the dark side of Project Alethea.
Now, Sam faces a pivotal choice: Spy within her own company and infiltrate the Project Alethea Team for the Resistance or keep her comfortable life within Telos’s ecosystem.
Brace yourself for an immersive adventure, set in a chilling, futuristic New York City. Will the quest for truth be worth Sam risking her own life and the lives of her loved ones?
Alethea is written by Katrina Day and Philomena Polefrone and directed, edited, and scored by Mark Henry Phillips (Serial, Homecoming).

saw this had great reviews and gave it a go.
Great story, execution and script. I really enjoyed this. I could picture in my mind eye everything. this was free in my subscription but if I'd known it was going to be this good it would Def be worth a credit.
only irritating thing for me was the girlfriends ( Lucy) accent. but that's just me.

Imagine Netflix made Mirror's Edge but with Covid
It wasn't great, it wasn't bad. It wasn't memorable, but it also wasn't completely forgettable either. You know, Netflix-like.
There are moments, especially early on, but some of the climatic plot points towards the end feel like they arrive and pass without much weight to them. The dialogue can also feel a bit stilted at times and comes with a lot of current buzzwords, topics, and cliches, again, ala Netflix. Finally, I feel like it was trying too hard to set up a sequel rather than giving the story arcs any meaningful sense of closure.
But, the world in which it is set is relatively interesting and can be described as a mix between the video game Mirror's Edge but with some form of horrific Covid-type virus thrown into the lore as well.
In the end it's free, and the performances from the voice artists are good. Go in with low expectations and you might end up leaving pleasantly surprised.
(Or if you like Mirror's Edge the way Millennials like Firefly, this might be for you even through all it's flaws.)

Big budget feel
This is well edited and presented, with decent characterisation.
However, what Alethea gains with its impressive presentation and production values and cast, it lacks in it's storytelling prowess and originality, which seems to lean very heavily into big corporation conspiracy theory. I have heard it all before really.
Alethea is a short story but without the nimbleness of events and the satisfying twists of that format, with a conclusion that feels somewhat rushed and anti-climactic, relying too heavily on a backstory that did not lend much weight to the big reveal.
But with that said, this audible book was made freely available with my membership, so was worth the listen.

Short but sweet
I liked this story but I think it should or could have been like 40 chapters to develop the characters and make the mystery a bit better I kind of guessed it a while before the last two chapters.
I think you could have drilled in the environment a bit better like if you don’t work for Talos you had nothing like a class struggle.
However that being said I did enjoy it but it was a short storyline which could have had different issues interwoven to develop better.
For instance she just became a radical rebellious traitor to her friends because her conspiracy nut father was missing, was a bit far fetched and lazy I think something more than the fact of thinking her mam was alive could have happened.
Anyway I’m drifting away from the point. It was a nice listen and I am liken these stories.

engaging story
the story line and plot is engaging and flow fairly easily. it is believable and actually fits in well with the narrative of what's going on in the world today.
Will be interesting to see where they take the story from here.
what I didn't like was that once again the alphabet community take a centre role in the story. you'd swear that the majority of the population were in this category. it seems that audible cannot produce a single thing for those who whould like to just listen to something not alphabet represented
