About this listen

Three 20-somethings are all that stands between an otherworldly threat and the survival of Earth in the latest thrill ride by Dennis E. Taylor, author of the Audible and New York Times best-selling Bobiverse series.

Jack Kernigan is having a bad day...a bad year...a bad life. After being booted out of MIT, he’s back in his Ohio hometown, working for the family business, facing a life of mediocrity. Then one day, out on a delivery, his truck hits...something. Something big...something furry...something invisible. And, it turns out, something not of this Earth.

Fate can play funny tricks. Which is why Jack suddenly finds himself the planet’s best hope to unravel a conspiracy of galactic proportions that could spell the end of the human race. All Jack and his best friends, Natalie and Patrick, have to defeat an alien threat is their wits, a lot of coffee, and a rather snippy AI named Sheldon. Plus, their own spaceship.

After all, if you’re going to rescue the world, the least you can get out of it is your own spaceship.

Dennis Taylor's best book so far!

Wow... listen to it... catches you from the first chapter. A great sci-fi romp with plenty of humour. Fast paced and extremely well performed. You have to read this! If you're a "ready player one" fan... you'll love this.

Would make a fantastic film... but, of course, the film will be rubbish!

The love child of Denis E Taylor and Craig Alanson

An enjoyable story which as an avid fan of both DET’s Bobiverse and CA’s ExForce series felt very familiar, especially being read by Ray Porter!

It certainly lacked some of the depth of the Bobiverse series and felt a little rushed to a conclusion. Without spoiling anything I would like to here a follow up focusing on the open threads (revenge, Pete & suitcase).

Worth the credit!

He’s done it again!

Another brilliant story from Taylor. Fun, engaging and believable sci-fi with likeable characters. He writes so well. Can’t wait for his next book. Ray Porter has done another excellent job of bringing the story to life.

Another ripping yarn from Dennis

I really like novels by Dennis, and I particularly like the narration from Ray Porter. This book was a bit of fun, a lot shorter than the epic sci-fi that I enjoy, but definitely worth a credit. The only disappointing thing is that it’s a SINGLE book and not the start of a series. I hugely enjoyed the authors series of books about Bob, I think he could go along way with this group of characters. Thank you Mr. Taylor

Interesting story line with a few giggles

Messers Taylor and Porter make a great combination. I am biased as I like my sci-fi with a dose of humour.
Listened to Roadkill in one sitting, couldn't stop!!

Another winner from Taylor and Porter.

I can't get enough of the pairing of Dennis E. Taylor's writing and Ray Porter's narration.

Through the Bobiverse and the Quantum Earth series to the Singularity Trap and now this, these are frequent replays in my audible library.

Audible hopes I enjoyed it and I did.

Plot driven

This is a perfectly fine plot driven novel that debuts with an interesting mystery and continues with light-hearted sci-fi. Yes the characters have fun, yes they're students who joke and sometimes they're very close to nearly cringy but that's minor and very transient. Given the fast pace, there's not a lot of room for character development and frankly I'm bored of hearing about the angst of someone who isn't even real, so limited character development is perfect thank you.

This does not suffer from the shortcomings of the sequels of Bob. As in the aliens don't look just like us and there's no specter of intergalactic gender essentialism looming over the alien plot. There is the concept of common design but that one actually makes sense and it doesn't get used as a crutch slash imagination replacement.

Everything about this audio book was fantastic, story, narration, length, humour, complexity… thanks to Dennis for the story and to Ray for yet another great performance.
