A beautiful little girl with a gorgeous, giant afro who loved to do fun things and spend time with her family, Maddie was the perfect picture of the happy African American girl. But all that changed when she started school. Maddie quickly noticed she was different from all the other kids in her class. While she had no difficulty making friends, she had a nagging feeling that she didn't fit in and always felt out of place, and this made her sad and depressed.

Daisy, a kind and helpful elephant, learns from her best friend, Ruben, that the zoo is planning to build a new community center. This news makes Daisy’s day because she loves helping others. Daisy, though, has a secret challenge and struggles with sharing it with her friends. Most of all, she is reluctant to share with Ruben as she feels that she might let him down along with her zoo friends.

Weekends are usually glorious times for little Maddie. She usually completes her homework on Fridays after she gets home from school so she has a worry-free weekend full of fun and games. Well, this weekend was very different. Maddie spent the whole weekend writing and studying because of a big exam coming up on Monday, and she was stressing out because she felt she wasn't ready, even after days of endless preparation.
