The United States of America is falling before the armies of the dead. Leading the sole survivors of the US Army's 10th Mountain Division out of the overrun city of New York, Captain Phil Hastings heads for the safety of Fort Indiantown Gap, a National Guard training facility deep in the woodlands of Pennsylvania. Joining with other remnants of the military, government, and civilian communities, Hastings and his men must try to keep the tsunami of corpses from taking over the world and plan the resurrection of the nation.

Overrun and forced to escape the killing grounds of Fort Indiantown Gap, the survivors of the 10th Mountain Division once again find themselves on the road, in search of sanctuary from the threat of the reekers. With a new plan in hand, Captain Phil Hastings, Master Sergeant Slater, and the acting president of the United States, Henry Cornell, lead their group of remaining forces toward Fort Bragg, NC, in an effort to enact Contingency operations that will save the United States from the clutches of the dead.

The shattered shards in a shattered land.... With the fall of the prisoner’s tower, Dariak and his companions head west toward his home kingdom of Hathreneir. The group struggles against feral creatures while striving to avoid the king’s soldiers. With each piece of the Red Jade, Dariak’s powers grow, but - as in Pindington - he can’t always control them. As the group journeys through the opposing kingdoms, each member must confront his or her past. Though they gather allies along the way, the war looms closer and peace seems ever out of reach.

With one jade left to reclaim, the team fractures, further jeopardizing Dariak's quest for peace. Heading deeper into Hathreneir, he seeks the final shard. The war between the two kingdoms escalates as troops are stationed at the borders and skirmishes erupt. Time is running out for Dariak to unify the shards and make his power known to the kings. Pushing through the growing battles, Kitalla sets her personal goals aside to rebuild their team and reclaim the balance that is missing from her life.

With the companions and the jades united, Dariak’s quest should have already ended, but more work remains. As with Delminor, who assembled the jades two decades earlier, bringing the shards together led only to further devastation. To complete his quest, Dariak must solve the final complication and unite the Red Jade permanently, without destroying any more of the world around him. Only with the help of his companions can the talented mage hope to bring peace to the lands of Kallisor and Hathreneir. Only together can they uncover the truth of the Forgotten Tribe.

Wishing to unlock the secrets of magic for all mages, Delminor pursues knowledge of the elements and the secrets of the Red Jade. His efforts, however, are hindered by the ever-raging war between Hathreneir and Kallisor.

Dariak is overshadowed by the legacy of his father, a man known to all mages, but a man he never knew. Ever compared to his father’s renown, Dariak yearns to make a name for himself. When he meets Kesh and explores magic with him, the spark between them ignites a rivalry with an old friend. When things go awry, Kesh is summoned home and Dariak ventures off to find his place in the world and a way to return to Kesh. He soon learns that every action has consequences and leaving the confines of his father's shadow causes him to cast shadows of his own.

When a curse plagues the land, reversing 16 years of prosperity, Andrew is tasked with repairing the damage, but every use of his magic leads to consequences.
