Clarence Locke was a bore and a boar. Thursday’s cocktails had, inevitably, gone the way that their first date at Brise’s had - a disaster, as far as Antonia was concerned. Antonia knew that it was time to throw in the towel, but try as she might, it seemed nearly impossible. More than just her nagging heart retreating to the knowledge that she was in love with a dead man, it was Clarence himself; he kept forcefully taking the lead, even when she didn’t want him too.

Time had flown, and Antonia wasn't entirely sure where it had gone. It seemed to her that she had just moved into Westamere Manor; had just discovered that her house was haunted; had just met the man whose ghost she was living with. And yet, the weeks and the months had passed, and it was already late October. In a flourish of busyness to prepare the manor for the winter season, Antonia completely missed the last few days of October.
