Gene Woolworth had regularly visited his grandfather's remote Alaskan homestead since his childhood. Upon inheriting the property, it was a dream come true for him. He would be able to live in the small log cabin and surrounding land that included twin mountains called Split Rock, a large pond, and the stream where he had often panned for gold.

Due to the sensitive nature of my profession, I am known simply as Mr. J. I have the unique ability to analyze people, places, and things in such a way as to be able to determine what would, should, can, could come next. In a way, I can predict the future. I first developed this ability while watching chess games in the park when I was 12 years old and soon was able to predict the moves and the winners of several games at the same time. Before graduating from high school, I was being utilized as an “unknown” source helping to solve cases for the local police.

The author places us in the middle of the cosmos right from the start. The story is futuristic but not necessarily true science fiction. It could be now! What dangers lurk in the cosmos? What dangers are from Earth? How mysterious is that unknown dark abyss of space? Look up. See yourself! Visualize your future; it could be sooner than you think. Unbeknownst to all but a select few, Jim is a federal agent whose skills and sled dogs are often pressed into service to thwart criminals and foreign agents operating in Alaska and beyond. On short notice he and his dogs must be prepared to sled or fly to hotspots to covertly perform their duty, train other handlers on a snow-covered mountaintop in Hawaii, or even provide eye-candy for an impromptu presidential publicity event.
