Story
In Woolrich's iconic tale, Detective Tom Shawn saves a lovely young woman from a suicide attempt one night, and later hears her story. She is in despair because the death of her wealthy father has been predicted by a confidence man seemingly gifted with the power of clairvoyance; a man whose predictions have unerringly aided her father in his business many times before. Shawn and a squad of detectives investigate this dire prediction and try to avert the millionaire businessman from meeting his ordained end at the stroke of midnight.

Story
From its launch in 1920 until its demise in 1951, the magazine Black Mask published pulp crime fiction. The first hard-boiled detective stories appeared on its pages. Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler, Erle Stanley Gardner and John D. MacDonald got their start in Black Mask. The urban crime stories that appeared in Black Mask helped to shape American culture. Modern computer games, films, and television are rooted in the fiction popularized by "the seminal and venerated mystery pulp magazine" ( Booklist).

Story
Dark crime fiction author Cornell Woolrich (real name George Hopley) brings us this show-stopping collection of grim and twisted stories of murder and other misdeeds. From a falsely accused ex-con who finds himself in an untenable situation in "I'll Take You Home, Kathleen" to the grotesque death of a starlet in "Screen Test", from a profoundly sad and impossible decision in "I O U" to the surprising twists and darkly humorous turns of "Bequest", these stories show Woolrich firing on all cylinders. As the centerpiece of the collection, the title novella "Nightmare" (which has been adapted into...

Story
