A TRAGIC DEATH
When the body of Leanne Wilson is found at the bottom of a Scottish mountain, it is classified as a tragic accident. There is no evidence to suggest otherwise.
A RISING BODY COUNT
Then DS Max Craigie discovers that five other women in the last year have died by falling off mountains, and something feels very wrong. They were all experienced climbers and alone when they died. This can only mean one thing: there’s a killer on the loose.
A KILLER IN THE SHADOWS
The more Max investigates, the more he believes that they are dealing with something much bigger than a lone serial killer. With five victims and conflicting clues, how do you catch someone committing the perfect crime?

Engaging story marred by too much bad language
I enjoyed the engaging story that kept me listening helped by the exellent narrator. I got weary of Detective Ross whose every sentecne is peppered with the F word and other expletives. I guess it's realistic and that there are some foul-mouthed policemen but when the action is condensed into a book it becomes annoying. Overall a competent police procedural that's worth a lsiten.

Story, narration, humour, all of it
Loved my latest fix from Neil. Read in one day as I couldn't put it down. Lots of laughs from Ross as usual and the narration is magnificent as usual. Storyline is good and keeps you engrossed. Can't wait for the next one 😁

Neither the story nor the narrator grabbed me :(
Although I have enjoyed the DS Max Craigie series in the past, I found this particular storyline to be average. I also became frustrated with the heavy use of Scottish dialect, which left me confused at times. It felt like the book was missing something, a feeling I've encountered with other authors when they continue a series featuring the same detective. Even Peter James and Robert Galbraith have had instances where their series seemed to lose direction. This wasn’t one of Lancaster's best works, but I did appreciate learning more about Max and Katie.
