About this listen
What is the link between the abduction of a little girl and a dead prostitute?
When the body of a prostitute is found, followed by the discovery of children locked in an attic, DI Gus McGuire is handed the case. But what at first appears to be a simple murder soon turns into an international manhunt for the members of a twisted child trafficking ring.
McGuire, who is suffering with his own emotional problems, must pick his way through the web of deceit and uncover the truth in time before the body count rises. Can McGuire identify The Matchmaker before it’s too late? And can he trust those he is working with?

Sharp intake of breath.....
I was shocked by this story line but could not stop listening. The characters are great and realistic. The narration perfect. I did not want it to end in one respect but wanted it to end in another. I enjoyed it so much I bought the next two books in the series!!!

Yorkshire Noir
My first 5 star review of 2019!!
How on earth did this series manage to evade me? The story has a very real feel and there are plenty of twists and turns and the odd red herring. The subject matter is quite dark, dealing with child trafficking and paedophilia and there are some shocking occurrences, but I didn’t find the book too graphic
I love books set in Yorkshire. I am from Leeds, just down the road from Bradford, and so I recognized lots of the places in the book. Liz does a great job of capturing the multicultural diverse nature of the city.
The characters in this book are amazing, especially the police team. Gus is a dreadlocked mixed race, middle class copper who returns to work after a horrific personal tragedy. His wife has left him for his sister and all he wants is to get back to work. He’s just the sort of bloke you’d want to be friends with. Then there’s the rest of the team, Alice Cooper, John Sampson, Sadia Hussain and Compo, who are all very well drawn and the banter between them helps to lighten the book.
The narration by Marston York was spot on and added to my enjoyment of the book.
It’s hard to believe this is a debut novel. It was a very difficult book to put down and I finished it just before 3am this morning. I will certainly be buying the rest of the series.

Brilliant new series
This is the first in the Gus Macguire series and it had me hooked in from the first chapter.
I enjoyed Liz Mistry's other series and have wanted to read this one for a while. I was not disappointed.
The story is gritty but with a feeling of realism to it which makes it more chilling.
I liked it so much I have downloaded the next one straight away!!

Logic laps and overstuffing of ideas but excellently read
Good , brave book but painful ideas and behaviour explored maybe the author wanted to increase people’s understanding and it does

Excellent book
A fantastic read that, unlike many books, did not contain any boring bits and pointless fillers, just gripping storyline all the way. I am originally from Bradford and know its surrounding areas very well and, although Liz used a bit of artistic license with some of the locations and landmarks, the familiarity added to the story. My only criticism and the reason for the dropped rating star on performance is that the narrator's pronunciation of some of the places detracted from the authenticity a little bit – and, to be fair, only evident because I had lived there. He was very good and I suppose wasn’t to know but for the record Keighley is pronounced “Keithley” and not, as it looks, “Keelly”. Likewise, Frizinghall is pronounced “Fryzinghall”. That said, I am very pleased he is reading the other books in the serious as he added real depth to the characters. I am looking forward to starting the next two in the trilogy. Excellent book!

Totally absorbing!
Recommended for lovers of crime thrillers who aren’t afraid of difficult topics. Great characters and cast enhance the story and Liz Mistry gives excellent value for money with this well plotted and heart rending crime novel.
The narration by Marston York is of a high standard with clear dramatic inflection and intonation. Really found myself totally absorbed. Just what a good book should achieve.
