Summary
‘Absolutely fantastic, had me gripped!!! Loved it!’ 5 stars, NetGalley reviewer
When human remains are discovered under Bradford’s derelict Odeon car park, DS Nikita Parekh and her team are immediately called to the scene.
Distracted by keeping her young nephew out of trouble, Nikki is relieved when the investigation is transferred to the Cold Case Unit, and she can finally focus on her family.
But after the identity of the victim is revealed, she’s soon drawn back into the case. The dead man is a direct link to her painful past.
As the body count begins to rise, Nikki must do everything she can to stop the killer in their tracks before anyone else gets hurt – even if it means digging up secrets she had long kept hidden…
For readers of Angela Marsons and LJ Ross comes a gritty new crime series featuring bold, brave and ferocious D.S. Nikki Parekh.

Excellent start to a new series
Gus McGuire is a hard act to follow, but Liz Mistry has done it again with her new detective DS Nikita Parekh.
I read an ARC of this book a few months ago and loved it so much that when the Audible version was released I couldn't resist.
This book (hopefully the first in a new series) is once again set in Bradford and even though I do know the city, Ms Mistry describes it so well that even if you’ve never been there you feel like you know it.
Our protagonist is a complex character, who just jumps off the page. She’s a strong, no-nonsense single mother, with a chaotic family life, but often rubs people up the wrong way. She’s not totally likeable, but she did grow on me as the story progressed. The supporting characters were all well written and believable. I liked the relationship Nikki had with her partner, Sajid.
The well plotted story builds slowly, with the first twist coming fairly early, and it kept me guessing throughout. I thought I’d figured out who the killer was but I was totally wrong! Hopefully we’ll be meeting Nikki Parekh again very soon!
The narration bt Shaheen Khan was brilliant, adding another layer of authenticity to the story.

Poor for Liz Mistry
Her last trilogy of books were brilliant so my expectations were high for this one. Got board early on but persevered until half way and gave up. Sorry but nowhere near as good as the previous 3.

Good story, awful narration
Another good book from Liz Mistry but born and bred in West Yorkshire I found this narrator awful, her pronunciations, inappropriate pauses, phoney accents were a great distraction! I continued with the book because I enjoy the authors style of writing! Bring back Marston York!

EXCELLENT
Nail Biting crime fiction right up the very end. Well narrated and very exciting with imaginative characters. Can't wait to download the next episodes in the series.

Not for me
I love the McGuire novels, because he’s not a cliché. The plots are surprising too.
Much as I wanted to like this, I couldn’t warm to the central character, and she seemed conform to a template.
