Summary

When a billionaire dies, an innocent woman is blamed. One lawyer must fight a wealthy family for justice.

It seems straightforward to Attorney Nate Shepherd: a middle-aged billionaire dies while celebrating at a wedding reception. The grief-stricken family lashes out, though, blaming the billionaire’s date for his death. When the family brings all of its power to bear, the wheels of local justice threaten to overwhelm the woman.

As Nate Shepherd steps in to defend her, he tries to deflect the misplaced anger that’s directed at the woman for the tragedy. But as the investigation progresses, a tangled history unravels, including unexpected ties to Nate’s own life. And with each secret that is uncovered, the stakes rise until Nate finds himself fighting for the woman’s freedom in a trial for her life.

Can Nate Shepherd protect an innocent client from a family trying to buy its own brand of justice?

This is the second book in the gripping Nate Shepherd Legal Thriller series. If you like razor-sharp dialogue, iron-willed characters, and slippery moral quandaries, then you’ll love this fierce courtroom drama.

Excellent Audio and Easy Listening

These legal thrillers are a lovely way to pass the time. They conjure up the setting with wonderful description and narration. The trials keep you guessing and all in all a great listen.

Well narrated, but the plot lacks depth

This crime thriller is very well narrated, but the plot seemed very light and I spent my time wondering and waiting for the "exciting" crunch to unravel. A nice listen but slightly disappointing.

Narration was excellent, the story was interesting but! So i’ll leave to the future listeners to make their own decisions

The narrator makes a good story great

Good story. Clever twists. Really good narration. It is a performance more than narration. Being a legal thriller it’s a similar structure to the first and has a lot of the same characters which I enjoyed but the subtle differences and twists made it fresh from the first book.

really like these books...

characters are interesting but I have to say that if this is how the American justice system works, you can see why they have the highest incarceration rates in the world

Good story

A good story although rather too much padding for my taste. The detailed description of taking a tin out of a cupboard and opening it is not really necessary!

Excellent Narration

I have enjoyed book one and two of the Nate Shepherds series , i have just purchased book three. What makes these books special is the excellent narration from George Newbern. He brings the characters to life. My only real concern is that there is only four books in the series .

True Intent

This is the second audio book I've listened to by Micharl Stagg and thoroughly enjoyed both. Great characters and the story lines keep me listening. I love George Newbern as the narrator and he really brings the characters to life. Worth a listen.
