Summary
Note: this book was previously published as The Conspiracy by Jack Probyn.
The owner of a jewelry store has been kidnapped.
The people responsible are known as The Crimsons, an organized crime group the police have been hunting for years.
A deadly collar bomb has been attached to her neck.
To save her, DC Jake Tanner, on the first day of secondment from the Met, must answer a series of riddles and clues to defuse the device.
The countdown to save her has begun....
But as the investigation develops, two things become clear: this is The Crimsons’ last height. They’re willing to do anything to ensure their survival. And not everyone is on Jake’s side. A knot of corruption operating deep within the heart of Surrey Police is working against him every step of the way.
Without knowing who to trust, Jake must decide whether to toe the line of duty or turn against his colleagues and solve the case that could cost him his life....
Toe The Line is a gritty crime thriller perfect for fans of Simon McCleave, Rachel Mclean, and the BBC's Line of Duty.

Exciting Listen.
This is another very gripping episode in Jake Tanners early days as a detective. I thought it a little far fetched in places where so much credence was put on a rookie detectives ideas but it was a very exciting listen from the first minute to the last. Corruption in the police force and in the crime gang, a race against time to try and disarm a killer collar all lead to an explosive finish. Highly recommended and I for one can't wait for the next story in this series. The narration was superb and really added to the overall enjoyment of the book.
I was kindly given a copy of the book and leave this honest review. *****

Surprisingly good
This is an interesting story that has a number of twists I did not see coming (some of them because I'd not read the full description).
Jake could have used more introduction as another reviewer noted but on the whole, I enjoyed this story rather a lot.
Narration is good except for Danika's accent which is not remotely consistent.

full of twists and turns
this was really enjoyable, and I lived the way that, similar to jake, you were guessing who to trust, and when you thought you had it, you didn't.
the only issue I had was in relation to the cruise ships. I thought that wasn't very believeable

Excellent
An excellent crime novel. An edge of your seat thriller starring DC Jake Tanner that takes you on a twisty ride. The characters are well drawn, excellent narration by Aubrey Parsons adds to the book.

Not quite there!
I quite liked the plot of this book, but didn't really connect to the characters, especially Jake. As this was the introductory book for his character I think the author failed to give Jake enough backstory to make me feel engaged! Some more of his child and her mother would have helped.
It may not bother some readers/listeners, but the lack of research on cruise ships and their security really was very poor. The ship was a cruise liner but was described at rocking side to side and to and fro while still moored in port! Never! Suitcases lying around unattended all over ship! Never. And our baddies able to carry on a holdall full of cash and diamonds unchecked? No!
I continued to the end but don't feel the urge to go for the next book in spite of Aubrey's fab narration!

Good story, great narration
Previously published as The Conspiracy this was renamed and relaunched in Feb 2023 with a new cover & new title, just to confuse the readers.
A good story that is fast paced from the start with a few decent characters. The mani character, Jake Tanner is a new DC, first day on the job, yet his bosses seem to follow his lead as though he's got more experience than all of them put together. This may be in part because he's crossed the paths of The Crimsons before as mentioned many times. Was this in a previous book? It feels like there's a lot of history here of which we only get told a small part, a bit like watching a movie from half way through.
Aubrey Parsons, the narrator, gives a stellar performance, as always
All told though, it was a good book if you can suspend belief a little.
