Summary

If the biblical plagues of Egypt truly happened—could they happen again—on a global scale?

Two years after vanishing into the Sudanese desert, Professor Harold McCabe comes stumbling out of the sands, but he dies before he can tell his story. Then an autopsy uncovers a bizarre corruption: someone had begun to mummify the professor's body—while he was still alive.

Subsequently, the medical team who had performed the man's autopsy has fallen ill with an unknown disease. Fearing the worst, a colleague of the professor reaches out to Painter Crowe, the director of Sigma Force. The call is urgent, for Professor McCabe had vanished into the desert while searching for proof of the ten plagues of Moses. As the pandemic grows, a disturbing question arises. Are those plagues starting again?

To unravel a secret going back millennia, Director Crowe and Commander Grayson Pierce will be thrust to opposite sides of the globe. As the global crisis grows ever larger, Sigma Force will confront a threat born of the ancient past and made real by the latest science—a danger that will unleash a cascading series of plagues, culminating in a scourge that could kill all of the world's children…decimating humankind forever.

Narrator

I really struggled with this narrator. The voice is monotone and makes it so difficult to get engaged.

Good book

Love the author enjoyed the series, loved reading the books. Did not enjoy this narrator. Won’t buy any more if this is narrated by the same person

very topical, good plot

I liked the bit with the elephants - I'm an animal lover, and the pandemic and climate are in a lot of people's minds. Personally I would have liked some more detail on the characters connections with each other, but that wasn't the focus of the book, but that's just my preference. I struggled with the narrator, his voice was sing-songy, the volume of his voice was up and down constantly so I had to listen with the volume up as I couldn't hear the words when his voice went quiet. it was really annoying so took a lot of enjoyment out of the book for me. I won't be listening to any other books if he is narrating.

Good but not great

A good book but not really keen on the reader who has a strange voice that did not in my opinion suit the book.

Excellent storyline, shame about the Narrator

Having read the books, and listened to a few of the other audio books in the series, I was very disappointed by the choice of Narrator for this one. The story was read without any concept of punctuation. It was almost like they were reading a shopping list.

Just really enjoyed the whole book it was easy to follow even though the story sort of split in two the narration was very good and easy listen. Second Sigma novel I have chosen, I read the first one enjoyed both of them.

Perhaps the worse story of the 12

Found it very hard to finish. Did Not keep my attention as many of the other 11 books have done

Oh Dear

Having enjoyed James Rollins books made the decision to listen to one for a treat. Unable to give a synopsis as the narrator drove my bananas. Within the first 15 mins found myself having to concentrate so hard to listen that it became a chore rather than a pleasure. I am unable to give anymore than 1 star as the narrator made me want to scream in frustration. Looks like I'll have to purchase the book after all.
