Summary

An aeon ago it crashed into the frozen earth. Millennia later it was removed from the icy soil, still functioning. They opened it … they shouldn’t have.

Alex Hunter – in the mission that turned him from a normal man into the weapon known as the Arcadian – and the elite team of soldiers known as the Hotzone All-Forces Warfare Commandos must enter a hostile country to rescue a defected Chechen researcher from the centre of a country at war.

But the HAWCs are not the only ones looking for the rogue scientist and the mysterious package he carries with him. A brutal and relentless killer and his death squad are on the trail too – and they bring a savagery with them Hunter and his team have never witnessed before in modern warfare.

The Start of an Audiblebook Binge

After listening to Primodia, and to the Centre of the Earth, I was looking for a series to get into and knew from previous listens that Beck's style would match my interest for fiction and adventure. I was not disappointed. Great story, engaging characters and the start to my Arcadian binge session.

Good listen if you like action and adventure

Just finished all matt riellys Jack West Jnr series, came across this and thought I would give it a try as it sounded similar. So far so good as it's the first in the series. Impressed with the action and plot.

is Mangan drunk while reading this?

I really enjoy Greig Beck's books, and when Sean Mangan is on form he's up there with Ray Porter, RC Bray and others.

Unfortunately, there are times when Mangan is a distraction. I've noticed that he occasionally starts slurring maybe halfway into some books. With this one it's from the start.

if this is due to a medical problem, I apologise profusely. But if it's due to alcohol, please don't drink before narrating Sean. it's soooo distracting and ruins the flow of the story as my mind latches onto the slurs and mispronunciations. It makes a good story average or unlistenable. The good narrators do the opposite: they can make an average story great.

Viscera horror that wasn't expected, but very realistic

the performance was great, as was the writing, and the story really leaves you wanting more

How short it was !

I know modern books like to do series but the one is ridiculous - it’s half a book hats always trying to throw it mines to link to future mysteries - all to entice you to buy the second one in the series - avoid from me.

Crap.

Ewer started a book and the first thing that comes across after a few minutes was "Stephen Segal"?
If not then this is it.
I cannot describe it any better.
This is the 3rd series of his I started after The misterios island and Center of the earth.
I am coming to the conclusion that he is no stephen king.
And the reader is also bad. ICHOR is pronounced like Igor and CHITIN like Chimp.
Maybe I will manage to finish it but really not sure...
