Summary

She ran away from the truth, but she can’t run forever.

Seven years after his sister vanished without a trace, Jude is on the road, determined not to return home until he has found her. He wants to reunite his broken family, but more than this he wants to know why Zoe left - what happened when they were kids, on that terrible day when everything fell apart.

They’d been enjoying the funfair - grasping a rare moment of happiness following their parents’ divorce - when after a ride together, Zoe had stopped speaking to her mother’s new partner. Though Mandy believed he was the man she’d waited all her life for, her love for her daughter trumped even that, and soon suspicions of an unthinkable betrayal shattered the family.

So finding Zoe would be just the start. If Jude can find her, then what happens next will depend on the story she’s been carrying with her all these years. Because when families are destroyed by dark secrets, can the wounds ever truly heal?

Compelling characters.

Enjoyed this. Compelling characters. Some deeper themes but story needed more depth. Good lighter read.

OK

I like everything written by NA as the characters are so interesting and the storylines are well researched. I liked the male narrator, though his accents were poor at times. The female narrator was awful. She kept using a strange rhythm that didn’t make sense to the sentences she was reading. This spoilt the book for me as I was more aware of the reading style than listening to the story. I won’t buy anything read by her again but I continue to be a big fan of NA and his imagination.

Another amazing story

Thanks Audible for introducing me to so many new authors. Nick Alexander is by far the best. This is the 7th book I've listened to by this author whose ability to describe complex emotions is incredible. These stories of human relationships are not unusual happenings but, you get to really understand the characters feelings and actions. You live the story with them. With each book I'm hooked from the start. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed this book

From the start all of the characters really grabbed me. Sometimes when books are split into two narrations you find you're only really interested or empathetic towards one point of view but I felt invested in both Mandy and Jude's stories. I loved the evolving relationship between Jude and Jess too. Narration was excellent.
