Summary
Discover a new series of whodunits by million-selling author Faith Martin. These charming mysteries will have you scratching your head to work out who the murderer is.
Meet Jenny Starling: travelling cook and reluctant amateur detective.
Please note this book was first published as Dying for a Cruise under Faith Martin’s pen name, Joyce Cato.
Jenny Starling has a job on a luxury paddle steamer working for a wealthy businessman. All she has to do is cook for his small number of guests. But things quickly turn sour.
Then she discovers the body of one of the passengers in the store cupboard. Who wanted him dead and why? Jenny will have to ignore many red herrings and follow the clues to get to the bottom of a complex and intriguing murder mystery.
This is the third of a series of enjoyable murder mysteries with a great cast of characters and baffling crimes which will keep you in suspense to the final second.
Perfect for fans of classic whodunits by authors like Agatha Christie, LJ Ross, TE Kinsey, and J.R. Ellis.

Acceptable for a holiday read
No gratuitous violence so very easy to listen to.
Definitely in the manner of "Miss Marple " as to how to solve a crime with the heroine always one step of the detective inspector.

Disappointing
I’ve really enjoyed most of the Jenny Starling books …..started with later ones and worked back ! This however was not up to the usual standard . The characters were very interesting, but the plot was a tad unbelievable. Somehow it felt disjointed . First one of the series that failed for me .

Great read
A delicious who done it. Travelling cook Jenny Starling finds herself faced with another murder to solve and the police are none to happy with her presence. Most enjoyable.

so so
slow to get going, listened to a couple of these now and it feels a bit like Agatha Christie stories being recycled.

Pleasant experience
An ideal book to take for a relaxing holiday. despite it being a crime novel, the story is peaceful, supported by the calm voice of the narrator.

Nice cosy mystery
Enjoyable read, not very taxing as it’s flows along at a slow but steady pace. Excellent narrator bringing the story to life, the one thing that irritated me was the repeated descriptions of Miss Starling. Every few pages she is described as ‘large, juoesque, bulky’ etc, often without any relevance to the story at that point.
This is only the 3rd novel in the series so I might try a later one as I still enjoyed the book.

Brilliant and unique
in all my years I have never read a thriller set on a paddle steamer, so this was an unusual, and educational listen. The way our protagonist works her way round the clues, leaves you in suspense until the very end. A highly recommended listen that is very well written and brilliantly narrated.
