Summary
Five grand for a couple of hours work? It seems easy money, but the deal ex-mercenary Max Iversson is chasing has gone disastrously wrong. Two of his friends are dead. And now he wants to find out who's behind their killings.
Detective Sergeant John Gallan is also looking for answers. He's investigating the fatal poisoning of a nightclub doorman. But leads are scarce and, when they do appear, so are bodies. this book was superb at the beginning...
...dragged in the middle and lost its way dreadfully only to happily find light at the end of the tunnel, eventually. Overall happy I bought it and persevered...

Good Story - But
I enjoyed this tale with the exception of the (to me) unnecessary swearing, particularly the use use of the “C” word. I realise it is probably used to make situations more authentic, however when listening I find the constant use of swearing off-putting. That’s just me.

Started Well but ran out of steam
Not a terrible book but after a promising start it really started to fall down and become unrealistic and a bit of a reach. Not the best Simon Kernick book but it’s fine if you want to have a filler. Deadline was much better and more gripping.

fairly action packed
Easy to follow, multiple accents, easy listening. The action scenes were verbalised well. I didn't suspect the the outcome.

NARRATION KILLED IT
I love Simon Kernick books - sadly, I am returning this as the narration is diabolical... I only got to chapter 5 before giving up....

Not the top of my list...
The storyline was great! However....
The narrator wasn't great but I perseverd, it took me longer than usual to finish this one because the narrators voice was a bit monotonous.
Also I thought there were more than needed with the sex scenes. I mean I don't mind 1/2 pationate moments but this was a bit much for me.
Sorry Simon Kernick, I'm not sure your books are for me.
