About this listen
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!
SHORTLISTED FOR THE BAILEY'S WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTION
The beloved debut novel that will restore your faith in humanity
When Rosemary Harper joins the crew of the Wayfarer, she isn't expecting much. The ship, which has seen better days, offers her everything she could possibly want: a small, quiet spot to call home for a while, adventure in far-off corners of the galaxy, and distance from her troubled past.
But Rosemary gets more than she bargained for with the Wayfarer. The crew is a mishmash of species and personalities, from Sissix, the friendly reptillian pilot, to Kizzy and Jenks, the constantly sparring engineers who keep the ship running. Life on board is chaotic, but more or less peaceful - exactly what Rosemary wants.
Until the crew are offered the job of a lifetime: the chance to build a hyperspace tunnel to a distant planet. They'll earn enough money to live comfortably for years... if they survive the long trip through war-torn interstellar space without endangering any of the fragile alliances that keep the galaxy peaceful.
But Rosemary isn't the only person on board with secrets to hide, and the crew will soon discover that space may be vast, but spaceships are very small indeed.
Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration and complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration so that listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

sound effects!!
Good book. I felt it got a bit soapy in places bit the characterisation was great and Becky Chambers has a real feeling for the human condition and the way emotions plat out.
Action packed too!
Loved the addition of background music and sound effects. More of that please.

Refreshing & Engaging
This was a really engaging listen, I loved the pacing and the depth of the book. It doesn’t fall into the old sci-fi space tropes which is really great!
The narrator & sound effects were also fantastic and really added a whole new level to the book!

A great recommendation
Recommended to me by my boyfriend, I approached this book with an open mind.
It turned out to a book that was easy to listen too. The characters are interesting and well developed. Watching the individual stories and collective narrative progress was really enjoyable.

A better version of a great book
The music and effects add a surprising amount to an already great book. I bought it again for this verion and I don't regret it. That being said, don't model your life on mine.

So many errors, but a great book
As a big fan of this book and the series, it has been nice to be able to listen to it on a long drive or during a night of insomnia. There are a number of small but frequent mistakes in the performance, which is irritating, such as consistantly using the word "antigrav" instead of "artigrav" (which mean completely opposite things) and inconsistent pronunciation of in-universe terms coined by the writer, but overall I think the performance is good enough for a fan of the book to enjoy.

Awesome book, excellently read
I often have issues with audiobooks where the narrator pronounces things in ways which to me seem ridiculously wrong. In this book, almost everything is exactly as I hear it in my head when I read the text. The narrator is clear, well-paced and does a good range of character voices, with appropriate moods and really gets into some of the more emotional dialogue without losing clarity or going over the top.
My only complaint is that every single time the narrator says "anti-grav" is where the text edition I have says "arti-grav", and it's a little jarring every time. In the context of the story it also doesn't make any sense, as an anti-grav would remove gravity but an arti-grav is what they use to create artificial gravity. But really it's a fairly minor problem with a top class audio production.

Great story, unnessessary audio track
I like the story and characters but the random space-elevator music played non-stop in the background is not appreciated.

A furry fanfiction, but not, and actually good
I liked it, and all the characters, but could not help but feel like it was all just an elaborate ploy to let the writer explore her polyamorous furry fantasies, but with a splash of authenticity and scifi.
75% of it felt like a masturbatory fever dream about how it would feel like to be a young explorative young woman and have sex with a rainbow unicorn, and also learn the intricancies of how their hooves are to be kept and what hay is best suitable for post-coital shenanigans while in a low orbit spin of <insert techno jargon here to make the unicorn sex feel more real>
I would like more. Fun.
