Summary
"Narrator Emmett Grosland conjures the essence of a troubled soul in search of peace in this gentle audio."—AudioFile Magazine
In A Psalm for the Wild-Built, Hugo Award-winner Becky Chambers's delightful new Monk and Robot series gives us hope for the future.
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend.
One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered.
But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.
They're going to need to ask it a lot.
Becky Chambers's new series asks: in a world where people have what they want, does having more matter?

New Favourite Books
Optimistic philosophy wrapped in cozy fantasy… and a soothing rhythm to the reading too. When I’m feeling blue, this is the book.

a cup of tea for the soul
I really enjoyed the book, while the book is short and mostly takes place far away from civilization it does a lot of great world building. I loved seeing the main protagonist being non-binary (using they/them pronouns) so if you are desperate for some well written queer characters and are into sci-fi that tells a positive story about humanities future try this book out

Judge the book by its cover
I enjoyed the audiobook a lot but I feel like this is one of those books that you need a physical copy, to get the most out of it. All the conversations between the robot and the monk were beautiful, and they are going to stay with me.
Also, yes I would like to buy a poster of the book cover

A precious, beautiful start of a new series.
The story is set in a futuristic place, where robots gained self-awareness and decided to leave the humans and be free centuries before, and the humans moved on to develop an apparently peaceful and reasonable way of living. At the beginning of the novel, a monk decides to change their vocation and becomes a tea monk. They slowly self-learn how to take care of people by brewing the most appropriate tea for each client, and, most importantly, by listening to each and every one of them, helping them to face their troubles and doubts. But they feel like something is missing. So the tea monk starts a journey into the wild, to be alone in the peace of nature, in the forest and up a mountain, to reach a hermitage. Until an unexpected visitor shows up at their door : a robot. The first robot the monk (or possibly any living human) has ever seen. The first monk the robot has ever seen. They end up helping each other and sharing their way through the forest, as the robot enthusiastically learns some human ways, and the monk learns (from the robot!) that life does not need a purpose to be wonderful. A precious, beautiful start of a new series.
