Summary

Ava needs to escape.

Stuck in a dead-end job, her husband Mark has left her with a mountain of debt and no clue as to when he'll be back.

When she receives the news that her grandfather has passed away, Ava is shocked to learn he has left his entire vineyard, Chateau Saint Clair, to her.

Fresh coffee and croissants for breakfast, a glass of red with the handsome local waiter Jacques; Ava starts to feel quite at home. But it would be madness to walk away from her marriage, to take a chance on a place she fell for as a child - wouldn't it?

Fans of Jenny Colgan, Lucy Diamond and Veronica Henry will want to join Ava for a glass of wine as the sun sets on the terrace at Chateau Saint Clair.

Quite good.

Hmmm I really wanted to love this book but I’ve got to say that the heroine very quickly got on my nerves. I know it’s supposed to be about a middle aged woman getting her life back but to me she came across as so naive and self deprecating that I felt I wanted to give her a good shake. It seemed to drag for me and in the end I actually gave up listening as I got bored and just went to the last chapter to find out what happened. Perhaps it’s just me.

perfect romance for Valentine's

provenance, wine, handsome hero, a bit of history. I am left wanting to drink the wine and enjoy a romantic evening or two out in the town.

I always enjoy Karen Cass as a narrator, she has a relaxed natural voice which one can listen to.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! 😃😃😃😃😃

Such a beautiful story, wonderfully told, great for easy listening in the summertime which is exactly what I was looking for and to be transported away to this beautiful place and life so completely far away from my own. It really drew you into this gorgeous almost idyllic world, where yes things go a little wrong sometimes but other times things go ok too. Really beautifully written by Ruth Kelly and the narrator was also wonderful too 😃 loved the whole thing from start to finish 😃 couldn’t have been better really 😃👏👏

A vintage read

loved this book with its twists and turns. The main character slowly evolving and growing. some characters were a bit annoying but I think they were meant to be. A good read.

i enjoyed this so much better than expected

I bought this as I am busy working at the same time so as I am a bit of a Francophile and i wanted something easy listening!
Sometimes when i do this the stories are a bit fluffy so I end up either returning or wading through! #
This was a very pleasant surprise! It was well researched...informative...super narration and a lovely light-hearted story.

Stereotyped Fun Read

I love Provence so the title caught my eye. With so much negativity around at the time I thought I would go for a bit of light escapism. The characters in the story are cardboard stereotypes but the book is written with a light comedy touch. All the villains and fools are men; now that is a surprise coming from a female author or maybe the norm. The reader has a lovely voice and the listen is fun. The author has avoided turning out soft porn to spice up the action. A good fun listen would make a light hearted TV film.

Loved the story

I loved this story, felt I was living the characters and got to understand Ava and the challenges and triumphs she faced and know the other characters well. This was the first audiobook I listened to as have struggled with listening to someone else tell the story.
The narration was well done as ‘Ava’ but felt would have been better for the other characters to have their own voice if male or female vs the narrator trying to do an impression of the relevant voice.

a lovely story...

I really enjoyed this wander through Provencal wine country, ably assisted by some spectacularly unsympathetic characters who come good in the end.
