About this listen
Escape to Italy with The Olive Branch. The irresistibly romantic new novel from Jo Thomas, award-winning author of e-book runaway best-seller The Oyster Catcher.
It's amazing what you can buy online these days: memorabilia, fashion accessories, a crumbling Italian farmhouse...
After a Prosecco-fuelled girls' night in gets out of hand, Ruthie Collins awakes to discover that she has bid for her dream Italian home online - and won. Recently out of a relationship, a new start is just what she needs. Anything is better than sleeping on her mum's settee.
But arriving in Southern Italy, Ruthie doesn't know the first thing about running an olive farm. And with new neighbours - the tempestuous Marco Bellanouvo and his fiery family - to contend with, all Ruthie wants is to go back home.
Life can change with the click of a mouse. But all good things - friendship, romance, and even the olive harvest - take time to grow. Can Ruthie finally put the past to rest and find her own piece of the Dolce Vita along the way?

Summer reading
Very predictable, and with a nice "taste" of Italy.
Definitely chick-lit but a good and pleasant read.

Worth a listen. It is a light hearted story of escapism to try a new life (which I am sure we have all thought about).
That's s us a story of escaping to Italy to try and make a new start. I would think mainly appeals to women. Light hearted and entertaining.

Jo Thomas teaches and teases us with this lovely book set in Italy. Her characterisation as always superb and the story absorbing. Excellent narration.

A wonderful Italian romance
I really loved listening to this audiobook, yes the storyline was a bit predictable, but it was told in such a lovely way , she had me yearning for the italian food, wanting to visit a little Italian village and wanting to taste the olive oil( of which I’m not really a fan)
By the time the story was coming to a close, I was wishing it would never end.

narrator good, story okay
The book wasn't bad, but not great either. narrator was good, though the accent sounded Greek rather than Italian ;)

Disappointed
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not time well spent. Was very disappointed with this book
What was most disappointing about Jo Thomas’s story?
Seemed long and drawn out and slightly implausabile in places
How could the performance have been better?
Seemed over emphasised in places. Narration was poor
Do you think The Olive Branch needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No

Easy listening
Persevered until the end, although had i been reading the book instead of listening to it I’d probably have given up.
Was impressed with the references to olive picking pressing etc - author researched well or perhaps a had first hand knowledge.
I live in italy myself albeit not Puglia but could recognise the characters, culture and way of life although I have never heard an accent like the lead character Marco

Fabulous again!
Jo Thomas writes very good stories set in different parts of the world, and although they all seem to follow a similar format, they are all highly entertaining, with individual, very real characters. I especially loved Late Summer at the Chateau, and the stories set on Winter Island and in Lapland, but this one is very good too. The bonus of reading Jo’s books is that I am much better informed about reindeer herding, wine making and olive oil production, and the countries where these things happen. Of course the writer can research these things, but how on earth does she get so accurately and descriptively into the nature and character of the individual people in these places? I am going to work my way through all of Jo’s books, and then wait impatiently for her next one. Absolutely brilliant narration too!
