About this listen
‘Janice is a wonderful woman whose authenticity pulls you along…the breadth and originality of supporting characters makes this debut an immersive delight’ Dorset Magazine
‘A treasure of a book. Beautiful, emotional and heartfelt with a cornucopia of characters you’ll love spending time with’ Phaedra Patrick, author of The Library of Lost and Found
She can’t recall what started her collection. Maybe it was in a fragment of conversation overheard as she cleaned a sink? Before long (as she dusted a sitting room or defrosted a fridge) she noticed people were telling her their stories. Perhaps they always had done, but now it is different, now the stories are reaching out to her and she gathers them to her…
When Janice starts cleaning for Mrs B – a shrewd and tricksy woman in her nineties – she meets someone who wants to hear her story. But Janice is clear: she is the keeper of stories, she doesn’t have a story to tell. At least, not one she can share.
Mrs B is no fool and knows there is more to Janice than meets the eye. What is she hiding? After all, doesn’t everyone have a story to tell?
‘Oh my giddy aunt what an amazing book…absolutely adored it from start to finish’ Jeannie
‘Not what I was expecting at all…loved the way it ended’ Julie
‘An absolutely wonderful, unputdownable book full of delightful characters’ Sue

Absolutely delightful!
What a joy to listen to this story! From beginning to end I loved each character and story behind them. A wonderful narration. Perhaps the Scots accent was not completely true but one couldn’t mistake who was speaking. Thank you to an author with a fabulous imagination and a narrator with real talent. Soooo enjoyed!

Captivating
A beautiful story in itself, the stories within it add to its charm. (Ewan's accent is the only negative in a lovely performance - I particularly loved Decius' voice.)

Narration spoils the story
The narration was breathy and the Geordie and Scottish accents truly awful. Spoilt the book.

I have to say when I first started listening to this book I wasn’t sure about it however as the characters unfolded I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

What a good story about stories.
To begin with I wasn’t sure whether I would like the book, but as I kept listening I was really drawn into the characters and laughed and cried to most things told in their stories. A very interesting and original take on telling stories within stories.

Heart-warming
Loved this story! Was hooked from chapter one. The narration was great, apart from the very dubious Aberdonian accent !!

Pleasant, enjoyable tale - something different
I really enjoyed this. It touches on relevant themes of today and has some quirky characters. A sympathetic, relatable main character. A satisfying ending.

I liked it but didn’t love it
I almost gave up quite early on as I couldn’t bear the male voices, particularly the Geordie and Scot’s accents. The start was a little disjointed, but, I’m glad I persevered. The character of Janice began to draw me in, especially once she’d met Mrs B, and the story behind her life became apparent. I would have scored it higher if the narration was better, but worth a go, especially in the sale.
