Great Story
This is the 1st book I have read by Steven McKay, and have now downloaded other books. Great story that kept you interested throughout, looking forward to the next instalment.

An enjoyable trip back in time
An interesting story that's sure to appeal to fans of Bernard Cornwell, Simon Scarrow, Conn Iggulden, Giles Kristian and the like. A well written novel that moves along at a decent pace with just the right blend of action and character development to keep you interested. The author clearly knows his stuff about the period which helps bring the world to life.
I rated the performance of the narrator as 3-stars as it felt a little weak and unpolished in places. Some of the voices he puts on for the characters were questionable too. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't horrendous or anything, just felt like it lacked polish. It could have done with a re-edit too as towards the end several sentences were read twice and words were repeated.
Overall it was a good listen though and I look forward to book 2.

Can it get any better?
What a fantastic start to what promises to be an engaging series. Having read, and enjoyed, all of Steven McKay’s previous works, I did wonder if he could match the Forest Lord Series. No worries!
With believable characters, the attention to detail, the right mix of action and well thought out plot, brings this together for a fabulous tale of Druids and old beliefs in post Roman Britain.
I enjoyed the narration, it was very well read, and I am not easily enamoured of most readers, but Nick did a good job.
I am excitedly awaiting book 2

Great story, awful accents.
This is a great story to listen to, it has everything we’ve come to expect from a great writer like Steven McKay.
Unfortunately the narration lets this audiobook down. The narrator murders the Scottish accent, to the point where I cringe whenever he attempts it - which is a lot. And then all the Saxons speak like Arnold Schwarzenegger apparently too. It takes away from the story as I can concentrate on nothing else!

What a wild ride! What in introduction to Bellicus!
Steven a McKay’s writing is fantastic this is a real romp through post Roman Britain steeped in the myth and legend that makes Britain so great. Really great read! On to the next one!

A very well read book
I enjoyed reading the book but found pleasure of hearing read, Nick does the book justice and I hope he does other that follow. For me the best part is getting the young girl back from the kidnappers, and the fact the head of the order is called Merlin rather than a person who existed.

Good story ruined by the narration
I really wanted to enjoy this book, but unfortunately, the narrator was not my cup of tea. Using modern accents like Scouser, it just put me off, I understand why it was done, but it wasn't done well. It made me not care about the characters or the events in the book.
probably one to read as opposed to listen too.

Enjoyable adventure
Old world post Roman period adventure. Story enjoyable but a bit week, I was glad when it finished as credibility was becoming stretched.
Narrator was engaging with a range of characters to voice.
