A lyrical and moving tale of a young boy growing up in Africa, and his lifelong friendship with a white lion.

A lyrical and moving tale of a young boy growing up in Africa, and his lifelong friendship with a white lion.

Bertie rescues an orphaned lion cub from the African veld. They are inseparable until Bertie is sent to boarding school far away in England and the lion is sold to a circus. Bertie swears that one day they will see one another again, but it is the butterfly lion which ensures that their friendship will never be forgotten.

Wow what a beautiful story

Beautiful bitter sweet story, very well narrated. This book was recommended to me by my 7 year old book worm daughter and I’m so glad she did. Reminded me a lot of the war horse story also written by Morpurgo

The love for the lion was so real

My children and I loved this story and we were all captivated by the stories that the old lady was telling the boy . We all talked after about the twist at the end .
It’s a lovely story bringing history , geography and love all together for a whole family to be captivated .
