About this listen
A stunning and moving novel from Michael Morpurgo, the nation’s favourite storyteller – featuring the bravest dog in all the world…
This is the story of Aman, as told in his own words – a boy from Afghanistan fleeing the horror of the Afghan war. When a western dog shows up outside the caves where Aman lives with his mother, Aman is initially repulsed – it is not customary for people to keep dogs as pets in his part of the world. But when Aman and his mother finally decide to make a bid for freedom, the dog Aman has called Shadow will not leave their side. Soon it becomes clear: the destinies of boy and dog are linked, and always will be…

Another great book.
As mentioned a million times previously, I love Michael Morpurgo's books. They are relevant, educational, beautifully written and narrated. This story may be fiction, however, I'm sure this is happening now. Genuine asylum seekers with genuine reasons for staying here, treated like they're criminals. They are the grafters, the folk who want to work. Who want to build a new, safe life for their families. I have no idea what it's like to escape a war torn country, being persecuted for not fitting in.

Shadow by Michael Morpurgo
I really enjoyed this short book. It was heart-warming, topical about asylum-seekers, and would appeal to any dog lover.

Not just a great read...
... but a great listen, too.
Morpurgo has in Shadow, of course, beautifully captured the ugly truth through the relationships he spins, between grandfather and grandson, mother and son, boy and dog. His storytelling is simple, accessible, moving, spellbinding. These are all things we've come to expect from the great man, and are the reasons why I wanted to download this book in the first place.
What I didn't expect was for the book to be so well... dramatised. I thought the actor's delivery was perfect, especially Afzal's in the role of Aman. His voice was full of the character, without being melodramatic.
What I mean to say is that the actors did more than just transcribe the story from text to audio, they truly added to Morpurgo's work, and made it even better. I truly recommend this to anyone, not just children. This is a work we can all learn from.

sublime
Was way better than the book as you get a feel of the characters personality as each character is narrated by a different person.
