Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

A legendary conservationist. A lifetime spent fighting for nature. An indispensable message of hope.

The world-renowned naturalist and conservationist Jane Goodall has spent more than a half-century warning of our impact on our planet. From her famous encounters with chimpanzees in the forests of Gombe as a young woman to her tireless campaigning for the environment in her late '80s, Jane has become the godmother to a new generation of climate activists.

In The Book of Hope, Jane draws on the wisdom of a lifetime dedicated to nature to teach us how to find strength in the face of the climate crisis and explains why she still has hope for the natural world and for humanity. In extraordinary conversations with her co-author Doug Abrams that weave together stories from her travels and activism, she offers a new understanding of the crisis we face and a compelling path forward for us all to create hope in our own lives and in the world.

The world needs a manifesto of hope now more than ever. This profound book from a legendary figure in the fight against climate change shows that even in the face of great adversity, we can find hope in human nature and in nature itself.

Sensational

Every adult and child should listen to this amazing book with Jane speaking in her own voice and at her own pace. It’s so personal the way she draws one in to her world and shares her life’s work. Her vision for the future is awe inspiring in encouraging everyone to alter the trajectory of climate change by doing their share, every day in every action and choice made. She gives us the hope that we can change the seemingly negative mood of the climate crisis if we start to make mindful choices in everything we do. Her soft gently voice and slow exacting words never come across as preachy, nor depressing, but sincere and HOPEFUL.

A book for us all

I absolutely loved this book. What an amazing life JG has lived and tirelessly continues to educate and share her knowledge which she mostly does by telling stories of her experiences.
I honestly didn't want it to end.

I love this woman

Let’s get the awkward bit out of the way! The conversation is a bit stilted at times - read from a transcript of the original? So it doesn’t always flow. Why not a straight interview, because when Jane Goodall speaks, she is wonderful. Though I will say, that in this format, both she and Doug Abrams come through as people, going through the pleasure and sadness of their lives. After all, isn’t humanity what this book is about?

The warmth and wisdom of Jane Goodall are totally inspiring, AND the practical side of what she has done, and we can do in this world crisis. After listening, I felt hopeful that we can yet pull the dire situation round.

Please listen to this book. (I wish Jane Goodall were my grannie!

Hoped for more!

I was interested in the subject in connection with Jane's life and experience (less so in Douglas Abrams tbh - no disrespect) . The narration with 'she said' was irritating me a little as it was fairly obvious the this was Jane speaking and therefore could have been edited.
Still the overall message is positive and I do not want to distract from that especially at a time like this, when it is so important to not give up hope. Jane's stories really touch the soul.

Heart-warming

Like Sir David Attenborough, Jane Goodall is an inspirational national treasure and her heartfelt, emotional yet prosaic advice in this book is truly inspiring - building, as it does, on the adage of ‘think globally, act locally’.

I really enjoyed this book (apart from the last chapter which I felt descended into quasi-religious, self-indulgent claptrap) and took heart from Jane’s sage words.

Her conclusion is truly moving.

A wonderful, inspiring and uplifting book.

I loved everything about this performance. Listening to Jane Goodall’s voice, and Douglas was such a treat as they’re both amazing performers with beautiful souls.
It was amazing to get to know Jane Goodall a little bit more and listen to them describe in very clear and detailed wording about the world We’re living in. There are a lot of books out there that just make one scared, but this book really does do what it says it gives you hope . Hope is what we will need in order to make that first step towards motivating ourselves to do something as Jane says so very truly that we all can do our part in this. I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in in the next steps to take. Of course, being on a plant-based diet is really for the moment together with recycling and reducing your carbon footprint, the only way to go. I believe who ever reads all listens to this book will thoroughly enjoy it. It should be a must read in all schools.
