About this listen

This fantastic new recording was released in September 2016 and comes from the acclaimed narrator of The Lightbringer series Simon Vance.

The start of a brand new trilogy from the New York Times bestselling author of The Way of Shadows.

Gavin Guile is the Prism, the most powerful man in the world. He is high priest and emperor, a man whose power, wit, and charm are all that preserves a tenuous peace. But Prisms never last, and Guile knows exactly how long he has left to live: Five years to achieve five impossible goals.

But when Guile discovers he has a son, born in a far kingdom after the war that put him in power, he must decide how much he's willing to pay to protect a secret that could tear his world apart.

Good.

Fun book. Magic good. Builds well. Characters interesting. Not the best book ever but I hammered through it fast so it's definitely the audio equivalent of a page turner.

Intriguing and Interesting from the get go

I'm a real stick in the mud sometimes when it comes to reading/listening to an author I haven't encountered before.

Iam very glad I followed my intuition on this one. A real "gripper" from the jump.

highly recommend a read/ listen

Entertaining

Good story. I'm glad i ignored the reviews criticising the narrator. I will be investigating the next book.

Great story

Really enjoyed the the way the story is built up, with clever sub plots and twists can't wait to see how things develop

Great start to a fantasy epic

Love the power system in this book. I came to this off of a stormlight binge and it was a lovely bridge for the style of fantasy I am into right now. the characters are charismatic and likeable with interesting flaws.

there are mysteries in this book but I feel like you get ample answers with still enough questions to keep you excited for them unravelling in following books. With a start like this I shall be following the series to the end.

Great book and amazing narration

absolutely loved the Night Angel series by Brent Weeks this series is another amazing story. a totally new and different magic system and characters that you hate to love and love to hate.

Simon Vance, as the narrator was a brilliant choice. his voice was perfect for several of the characters. Andros in particular was a character I struggled with in the books but was my favourite character when voiced by Simon. Captain Gunnar too was my least favourite character when I read them.

my only problem with this series is there are a couple of places that seem too slow considering what is happening elsewhere in the world.

I've read many reviews says that the books are terrible however I strongly recommend reading or listening to this series a couple of times to fully appreciate it.

never heard of colour magic?

often I struggle to go form one author's world to another but Brent manages to hook you and reel you in before you know it. Yet again, great characters and a rich involved world has been created by this relatively new author and a kind of magic i've never heard of before. absolutelyloved this book. I remember when this was supposed to be a trilogy!

Narrator sounds like a stoned drunkard

Good book but the narrator was just wrong for the book, he would have been better suited for Zombie books.

It might be worth getting it redone Brent for people that are new to your series.

Loved it

Was having a book hangover from Robin hobbs realm of the elderlings and nothing seemed to interest me since. This is completely different but has really kept my and attention. Characters are complex and multifaceted and story is solid, only thing I’m not keen on is how much the women are objectified, a lot of the story is the perspective of a teenage boy and he’s not gross about it but it just gets a bit tiring hearing about the size of any female characters breasts regardless of how minor their role in the story is.
