Summary
Welcome to Eldey, an island with deadly secrets.
Mona is a carefree artist, staying at The Cloister to work on her illustrations.
Beth is the harried mother of a toddler, on the remote Welsh island for a weekend escape with her family.
Charlotte wanted a romantic getaway with her husband, not a trip with his troubled teenage stepdaughter.
One of them is a serial killer who poisoned four of her friends at her eleventh birthday party.
When one of the hotel guests is found dead, it becomes clear to Mallory Dawson–the night manager of the boutique island hotel and former police detective–that The Birthday Girl is among them.
There are three guests who fit the profile, but which of them would risk everything to kill again?
An absolutely gripping Welsh crime novel, perfect for fans of Sarah Pearce and Lucy Foley.

Superficial and contrived
A closed room murder mystery as per Agatha Christie, complete with Miss Marple. Some dramatic sequences but too melodramatic for me. Overall I found it superficial, lacking any real character depth and no real explanation of the motive.

It’s good, but not great!
This novel is good enough to hold attention and for me to want to know what happens next. The final few chapters are weaker than the rest, so that’s a bit disappointing. The other disappointment here is the sprinkling of Americanisms. This is one thing I hate in British books, set in Britain. If Americans are seeking British crime fiction, I expect they want authenticity. If they don’t understand a term, surely they can look it up!
