Summary
Swallow, daughter, pull them in, those words that sit upon your lips. Lock them deep inside your soul, hide them 'til they've time to grow. Close your mouth upon the power, curse not, cure not, 'til the hour. You won't speak and you won't tell, you won't call on heaven or hell. You will learn and you will thrive. Silence, daughter. Stay alive.
The day my mother was killed, she told my father I wouldn't speak again, and she told him if I died, he would die too. Then she predicted the king would sell his soul and lose his son to the sky. My father has a claim to the throne, and he is waiting in the shadows for all of my mother's words to come to pass. He wants desperately to be king, and I just want to be free. But freedom will require escape, and I'm a prisoner of my mother's curse and my father's greed. I can't speak or make a sound, and I can't wield a sword or beguile a king. In a land purged of enchantment, love might be the only magic left, and who could ever love...a bird?

MUST LISTEN!
I fell in love with this book from the start. A wonderful story with beautiful writing and the narrator was perfect! If you love fantasy and want something slightly different form the normal Fay or vamp novels, PLEASE give this a try!

Absolutely beautiful!
I was instantly mesmerised by the story and beautiful writing. The experience of listening to this was like no other. It's like being submerged in to the story, feeling the emotions of the characters, hearing the birds, feeling the moss under my feet and seeing the world Amy built by the poetry of her writing. I would like to urge everyone to experience this, if you like fantasy, if you like romance or even if you don't.

Fantastic story, okay narrator
Really enjoyed this book (as I have all Amy Harmon’s books!). It felt like a fantastical fairytale and there were certain lines that took my breath away. I can’t wait to read the next in the series but I won’t be listening to it on Audible as the narrator ruined a lot of this book for me. At times she put on a child’s voice which I felt was in complete contrast to Lark’s character. She cried through certain lines which I imagined Lark to have strength in and I felt it was really at war with the narrative. Such a shame for an otherwise brilliant tale.

Pleasant fantasy romance
This book was a pleasant listen without bringing anything particularly novel to the genre. The performance was similarly fine without truly providing a great enough separation between most character voices.
