Summary

The past never stays buried for long....

Detective Chief Inspector Ryan believes he has put his turbulent history behind him. Then, in the early hours of the summer solstice, the skeleton of a young woman is found inside the Roman Wall at Sycamore Gap. She has lain undiscovered for 10 years, and it is Ryan's job to piece together her past.

Enquiry lines cross and merge as Ryan is forced to face his own demons and enter into a deadly game of cat and mouse with a killer who seems unstoppable. Murder and mystery are peppered with a sprinkling of romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit set amidst the spectacular scenery of Hadrian's Wall country in Northumberland.

Good but repetitive

the performance is wonderful. However much of the first half, especially, is a repeat of earlier books. It's fine to give some background, but for me it was too much. great story, though.

enjoyed but didn't love this book

After loving the first Ryan book, I was keen to start this one.
I found the story a little confusing, I don't think it explained very well the connection between Edwards, Colin & Donovan & how it was so easy for them to plot and communicate. Still enjoying the relationship between the characters and will continue with the rest of the series

far fetched and not well charecterised

not a bad book but not as good as some of the later books. charecterisation OK but veers into mills and boon type territory too ofte.

Another great crime story from LJ Ross

Second in the series and every bit as good as Holy Island. I’ll certainly be buying others in this series. Superbly narrated by Jonathan Keeble.
