About this listen

No job, no money, no love - and to make things worse, 27-year-old Charlie has no choice but to leave New York City and move in with his mom in his isolated and conservative hometown of Sunset Springs.

Home isn’t a comfortable place for Charlie. One of very few Black residents and the only trans person around town that he knows of, this will be Charlie’s first time back in Sunset Springs since he transitioned. He expects confusion and maybe even hostility. He definitely does not expect Jackson Ford.

Jack was the brooding yet beloved football star at their high school, but now, he’s an outsider after coming out as gay. When Charlie and Jackson fall for each other in a swift and surprising romance, Charlie has to decide if he’s willing to exchange his old dreams for a new one.

Sunset Springs is an audio novella about finding courage to allow unexpected change, even at the risk of a broken heart.

Amazing

A heartwarming tale that makes it hard not to like. Amazing writing and a detailed yet simple story and one of the best queer romance stories.

Beautiful story

I’m genderfluid and have a transbrother. I pass. When people know my pronouns of course, I don’t. But walking down the street people assume I am whatever and no matter how I try to not look like that I will always just be accepted and pronouned incorrectly. Not ideal but safe. Safe. I really just learnt a lot about what my brother has to be dealing with from this book, and also to have that euphoria of this lovely story of a transman getting what he wants from his career and finding love too. Its the first ever book I’ve read about a transperson and its so refreshing to feel so included.

Cute

Would have loved if this was 3 times longer! Everything happened so quick and there was no usual growing tension that I'm used to reading about but still it was very nice in a makes-you-feel-good way!

Cute

This was such a cute small town romance, giving me serious Book Lovers vibes and I loved it!

With really short chapters, this was a very quick listen. I enjoyed reading the story from Charlie’s perspective and would have loved to have kept reading about his journey to happiness and relationship with Jackson!

Callender navigates themes of transphobia, homophobia and racism with honesty and openness, while delivering a feel good cosy romance. I will definitely be reading more of their work!

A happy ending

And they all lived happily ever after. Very satisfying but a little predictable and I say that as a gay person. A nice story,

A little short and jarring, but so beautiful

This was a really cute mm, small town romance audiobook and got me really excited for the other books I own by this author. I loved the representation in it (the main character is a black gay trans man). I wish the ending wasn't so jarring, but given how the story played out, it stays true to the character instead of the expected ending. I love that the author is black, queer, and trans, and that the narrator is black and trans non-binary.

Started sweet then disappointment

This wasn’t listed as YA or I’d not have bothered. The story started off sweet and the premise had so much potential, but then the huge fade to black was such a disappointment. Such a waste of listening time due to the complete lack of spice,
