About this listen

THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER THAT STARTED A PHENOMENON...with all-new DUET narration!

A COMPLETE STANDALONE.

You’re not supposed to want the one who torments you.

When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a jerk he’d be.

I hated that he took it out on me because he didn’t want to be here.

I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room.

But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

At first, I thought all he had going for him were his rock-hard tattooed abs and chiseled face.

But things started changing between us, and it all came to a head one night.

Then, just as quickly as he’d come into my life, he was gone back to California.

It had been years since I’d seen Elec.

When tragedy struck our family, I’d have to face him again.

And holy hell, the teenager who made me crazy was now a man that drove me insane.

I had a feeling my heart was about to get broken again.

Excellent Listen!

This book!! Wow! I thought I was in for a kind of standard new adult taboo romance but, no, it was much more. I will preface that I listened to the audiobook and it was GRIPPING. Thanks to one of my bookfriends for the recommendation to catch this in audio format!

I don’t listen to audiobooks much and so far the handful I’ve tried, I usually find the narrators kind of plain or I really like one but not the other and I have to work to focus. In this book both narrators are fantastic, really kind of more on the acting it out side rather than just reading. The narration really held my interest and maybe made me feel more emotional than if I had just read it visually but not sure. The story was great either way but the audiobook really bumped this up I think!

I was initially maybe feeling a little too old to read books where the MCs are 18 but the rest of the book took place as later adults so it worked out.

I just loved the push-pull between them, Elec just being a big pot-stirrer but you get a little why later and loved Greta’s sweetness and fascination with him.

Greta was so, so sweet, her letter to him and his response made me swoon so hard. Just how she really got him and how he really needed someone to get him… 😍Even when they grow up and see each other again…ahh Elec, his heart. He just needs all the hugs and love. I love a kinda a-hole MMC with a broken little heart inside and the FMC that can really see him.

As second chance type books do to me, apparently…I was so emotional, I was so f-ing sad for them! Bawled my eyes out. The GUSP I GASPED when they reunited and she saw him on the balcony… aggghhh. Then just cried some more all through the parts after that…them being around each other again but stuff being in the way…streesss and sadnesss 😭 lol I was not prepared. Also some grief/comfort themes which also makes it emotional. Pretty much sobbed through the whole middle of the book. Man, it was more than I expected when I picked up this book - that is for sure!!

Anyway this is getting long but… I loved this audiobook/book and definitely recommend! It has tons of ratings and reviews so it seems well known but if you haven’t picked it up already - I’d say go for it!

Great story told by amazing narrators

Who can ignore a Penelope Ward story? Well I can’t that’s for sure! And at long last this fab tale is brought to life in narration too.
This story grows over a time period and you just want to the main characters to succeed. A bad boy? Of course… a great female lead? Of course!
Full of a great mixture of heart wrenching moments, opportunities you want to grab, funny laugh out loud moments. Everything you could want.
I didn’t hesitate to buy the audio book. The choice of narrators was top notch.
So don’t delay, go listen. You will not regret it for a moment. Happy listening!
