Summary

A Sunday Times and New York Times Bestseller!

Take a ringside seat in the high-stakes world of international politics...

After a tumultuous period in American politics, a new administration has just been sworn in. Secretary of State, Ellen Adams, is determined to do her duty for her country. But she is about to face a horrifying international threat...

A young foreign service officer has received a baffling text from an anonymous source. Too late, she realizes it was a hastily coded warning. Then a series of bus bombs devastate Europe, heralding the rise of a new rogue terrorist organization who will stop at nothing in their efforts to develop their own nuclear arsenal.

As Ellen unravels the damaging effects of the former presidency on international politics, she must also contemplate the unthinkable: that the last president of the United States was more than just an ineffectual leader. Was he also a traitor to his country?

State of Terror is a compelling and critically acclaimed international political thriller co written by Hillary Rodham Clinton, the 67th secretary of state, and Louise Penny, a multiple award-winning #1 New York Times bestselling novelist.

"Smart and fast and twisty, State of Terror is a dazzlingly unpredictable political thriller. I loved it." (Kathy Reichs)

A state of terror in more ways than one

A quite terrifying story, in view of Hillary Clinton's co-authorship. But, as usual with Louise Penny's co-authorship, a gripping story. So glad Gamache and Three Pines had a part to play.

Strong start but increasingly implausible

It has a strong start and the detailed descriptions of stand in characters representing modern state leaders make it entertaining. But it becomes increasingly implausible as it goes on.

First book on Audible

And what a book. Fantastic, well paced and gripping. I'm just hoping it was pure fantasy, my fear is that it's not. I loved it.

Entertaining Listen

Enjoyable and entertaining listen, but the performance was a little grating at times. Storyline was fast paced, with unseen twists and turns.

A good thriller

A good thriller. Quite exciting at times. Kept me guessing long enough between enough red herrings to race through the audio book.

Despite some other reviews, a few caricatures based on political leaders and other positions of power, current and historical, which, although not impartial, did not detract from the storyline for me.

Engaging Thriller

Very enjoyable and fascinating to hear some of the insights clearly based on the author's first-hand experience. A slightly predictable storyline but nonetheless compelling. Beautifully narrated and a great listen.

Brilliant!

Have enjoyed all Louise Penny's 3 Pines books and this is a masterpiece of fiction in that it brings together the potential consequences of America's isolationist policies under the Trump administration. A gripping drama, right down to the wire. Hilary Clinton's input gives it a realistic feel, and a character in Ellen to which we would all aspire. Risky content, brilliantly handled. A great and thought-provoking read.

Go Hillary!! Nice one Lady.

I really enjoyed the listen and the story was gripping. I was entertained, by what my daughter and I, said was Hillarys therapy sessions. Oooo that man got it both barrels.
