About this listen

He leads the league in scoring. My heart won’t give him another shot.

I swore I’d never come back to Denver.

I’d never trust the wrong man again.

But here I am, back in the same place as the bad boy athlete who broke my heart.

Clay rules the basketball court, and now he’s gunning for redemption. But I'm not the same girl who fell for the man behind the all-star image and reputation.

He made me want him like I’ve never wanted anyone.

He made me feel like I was the only thing that mattered.

A single look can make me ache.

A whispered promise in his gruff voice makes my chest tight.

Clay’ll do anything to prove we’re worth another shot.

Shot Taker is a full-length grumpy sunshine sports romance and book 2 in the King of the Court series. Clay and Nova’s story begins in Game Changer and concludes in Play Maker.

I can’t wait to listen to the final book!

After the way the first book ended I was anxious to dive into this book. This second chance, grumpy x sunshine, sports romances left me feeling all sorts of things and I can’t wait to start book 3.

There is something about Piper Lawson’s writing that draws you in and I cannot get enough of it. Clay was determined to get Nova back and he really put himself out there. I absolutely loved the way he fought to get her and show her he really cares. I cannot get enough of these two!

Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins were again phenomenal in this second book and I can’t wait to hear them in the final book in this series!

Sports Romance

Shot Taker by Piper Lawson is a grumpy sunshine sports romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins. This is the second book in the King of the Court series.

I am really enjoying the relationship between Clay and Nova. Their relationship is messy, but I can't help but root for them. I liked that we got both of their points of views throughout the book.

The book ended on a great cliffhanger. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series Play Maker so I can get more of their story.

Lance and Carly did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this series if you’re looking for a grumpy sunshine romance, sports romance, or contemporary romance.

PERFORMANCE REVIEW & RATING: 4.5 STARS

Well, my love for all things Lance Greenfield is still growing strong! Carly and Lance make a really good team as Clay & Nova, and I can’t wait for the next installment in this trilogy (but not really because there’s a book 4 lol).

STORY REVIEW & RATING: 4 STARS

I’ve always found Piper Lawson’s style of writing to be easy to get lost in. She has a way of pulling you into her stories and making you want to be a part of the plot. This story is no different and I especially want to be friends with Clay! I mean his comeback from the stupidity he pulled was a thing a beauty and it really showcased how good Piper is with character growth. Nova also did a whole lot of growing in this segment and it all just made me happy from the inside out!

I went into this trilogy already loving the ”world” it was loosely connected to, and I still love it, maybe even more :)

Now, for the not so perfect part … I just have a couple of things that I couldn’t not mention.

✔️ In all honesty, as much as I liked the storyline in this installment, it was completely unnecessary to make it its own complete installment. You run a huge risk if this happens because you might turn off readers from reading forward and it’s just not necessary, not for the events that transpired.
✔️ There are a few plot discrepancies between the first book and the second that are very minute, but they happened and UGH, WHY? Lol
✔️ Nova & Clay are surrounded by people some seriously wacked out people. That’s it. That’s the statement LOLOL

Looking forward to seeing how this storyline progresses in Play Maker and hoping against hope we are done with the break-up/make-up madness!! We shall see :)

Shot Taker

Yes, I like!
Although I can't wait to get to know how it's going to end. I need to know the whole Clay and Nova story.

Clay is his s3xy self, but keeps things from Nova. And Nova is very easily forgiving.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

Shot Taker is book two in the King of the Court series and picks up where Gamer Changer (book one) left off. That cliffhanger the author left us on was brutal and left me hanging so badly. I was so excited to start book two and I was not disappointed!

In the first book Clay and Nova's relationship was rocky, to say the least, they ended on some pretty bad terms. In book two, you see a softer side to Nova. She has started to discover herself and what she wants and she has started seeing her self-worth and what she deserves. She still has her sassy, witty and fun side, her growth was amazing to read and it made my heart happy!

And Clay? I love his grumpy, bossy and possessive. If anything, these traits in him only intensified. After things ended between them, Clay knew he needed to redeem himself and he is determined to prove to her that he made a mistake and that they are meant for each other. He has realised that Nova is the girl for him and he will win her back.

The angst, the push and pull and the back-and-forth banter between these two had me all in my feels. The chemistry and tension was intoxicating and addictive to read. I’ve fallen hard for these two, their connection and relationship are everything and I am beyond excited to see where the author goes with their story and relationship with Play Maker (book three). I’m sitting here, left hanging on a cliffhanger and a book hangover setting in. Gah!

I NEED BOOK THREE NOW!!!

Second installment in the trilogy!

This is the second book in the King of the Court trilogy, a sports romance. This is one of my favorite series by Piper Lawson. Clay and Nova's story continues where the first book left off. The story is entertaining, engaging, and captivating. Nova is finally standing up for herself, and going more confident. I liked Clay's determination in this installment. The story is filled with drama, and angst. The supporting characters are great. Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins did an outstanding job bringing this story to life. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listening to Play Maker, the third book in the trilogy, to know what happens next.

Loving the series!

Basketball is an exciting sport and Piper Lawson brings part two of her sports romance series holding my heart in her hands as I wait to see just what is going to happen between Clayton and Nova! Picking up where book one leaves off, these two are on the outs after Clay gives her a note telling Nova it's over. Nova picks herself up, not sure what she is going to do when she is approached to paint a mural. Now she is staying, but is Clay? And how is he reacting to other men finding her attractive?I am loving these two. I love how messy these two are. Clay is unsure of his place with the team, but when it comes to his heart, he knows Nova owns it. Getting her back is key. Nova finds herself in this book as she paints, is recognized for her talents and is pursued by her love. As these two dance around each other and find their way, Lawson hit me with another twist I know I didn't see coming. Give me the conclusion so I can see how it all ends!!!

Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins continue their narration of this story and they make a spectacular team. Greenfield is Clay, from his arrogance to his lack of self confidence and brings out his true colors perfectly. Robins as Nova, has her growing throughout the series, and it's easy to hear her changes as she melds into the woman she is becoming. Loved this one and look forward to book 3.

Clay & Nova - Book 2

When Nova and Clay finally think they found their happiness something else comes up that shatters their bubble. Can’t wait for the conclusion of their story.
As we are accustomed to, Lance Greenfield and Carly Robbins deliver an amazing performance.
