Summary

An Alex King prequel, set 17 years before The Contract Man.

In the last days before signing the peace agreement, an IRA splinter cell mounts an operation on the British mainland using English criminals. This unprecedented move intrigues MI6, and they assume command of MI5’s surveillance operation.

A career criminal is released from prison and aims to win back the wife and child his sentence has cost him, but before he can, he is forced back into his old world. The stakes have changed, and his family have become leverage for the most ruthless people imaginable.

A woman imprisoned in an abusive relationship, desperate to escape with her son and rekindle her past, becomes the pawn in a deadly world of deception, violence, and retribution.

A clandestine wing of the secret intelligence service tests its newest recruit. Alex King has trained and operated in the shadowy world of intelligence, and now, he must kill for his country, but before he can, he needs to discover more about the men he has been sent to kill.

Poor Narration - Preview before buying

Firstly I was annoyed that the Narrator had changed again. Then within the first five minutes of listening my ears were in pain.

The narrator...........was speaking..........like I have..........typed this. He..........was reading.......... the book..........not performing. The characters..........were..........poorly voiced..........with the worst..........accents I have.......... heard.

As for the actual story itself, I found that I could not remember anything past a bloke in an alley, I was too focused on the poor narration.

Made my ears bleed

Whoever thought it was a good idea to employ this narrator for this book needs to be taken outside and shot. I couldn’t stand it. An American trying to do British and Irish accents and failing miserably. I thought the last guy used for book 2 was bad but this was way worse. If he was paid £0.20 it was £0.19 too much. Sort yourselves out Audible!

Story and Narrator

What is potentially a good story totally ruined by the worst narrator ever. Pronunciation, diction and attempt at mimicking accents nothing short of the ridiculous.

absolutely dire

honestly, worst reading of a book ....... ever.

I don't think the narrator future say more than 5 words without taking a breath, either that or he felt the need to put punctuation after every 3rd or 4th word.

rubbish - be going for a refund and I've only just part through chapter 2 !!!!!!

Robotic narration

This is the worst narration I have ever heard, it sounds like the early text to speak on windows 98, I only lasted 10 minutes of the book. I can’t believe someone ok’d this as a performance. What a waste of money buying this book, I don’t usually preview the performance, I will from now on. I wish they would stick to same performer throughout long series’ the first narrator was good, book 2 the main character suddenly developed Newcastle accent!
